What should I buy to prepare myself for Ithaca? Emphasis on cold weather gear, I suppose. But whatever else you guys feel is essential, too. I want to create a checklist of things I need to get.

Supply and demand. Fly into NYC and take a bus up to Ithaca -- it tends to be more cost effective, the airport in Ithaca is extremely unreliable and you'll have to take a bus anyway if you fly into Syracuse.

Is that just for the flight? I booked my flight/hotel in under $600 last week on Travelocity

This was in my reply to your PM, but just to get it out there for others that might be interested: NetID login (including Cornell email address) info came out via email early May last year (so look for it after the first deposit deadline sometime). Class registration is automatic and no need to worry about tuition 'til summer.

why don't you just contact the people renting the place out and see if they can send you some pics?

i have and they said they would upload them if they had any. so i guess it's either finding a place with pictures or flying out to Ithaca just for this (from Eastern Europe hah)

I don't know about hiring, but you can definitely ask fellow admits or current students to go view it for you. Try asking in the fb group.
