Is there a button somewhere to withdraw. I got a paltry 2K in aid. Not worth negotiating because I know I'm not going there.

Has anyone had success negotiating a second increase in merit aid and/or requesting an extension on the deposit deadline?

Yesterday, I sent emails asking for both a deposit extension and a scholarship reconsideration and received replies concerning both the same day. The deposit extension was a bit terse, saying I was admitted in January and admissions only grants extensions for students admitted a few weeks ago. Truthfully, I was a bit put off by how harsh the response was in comparison to all the dogging different members of the school had been doing in trying to contact me.

As for the scholarship aid, you can request a one time review of the scholarship offer. But since the deposit is due today, you'd have to give up $200 before having the request considered since the scholarship committee doesn't meet until next week.

I know this has been answered already in the past few weeks/months, but has anyone heard back very recently (last five days or so) about scholarship reconsideration? I submitted mine, along with my initial deposit, yesterday morning and am really hoping to hear back before tomorrow when Vanderbilt's deposit is due.

I received an answer to my reconsideration form last Thursday. I sent it in on Monday, April 11 so it was a relatively quick turnaround.

Okay thanks. I really really hope I hear back sooner than Thursday!

Yea that reply email basically made me write off texas. "We won't reconsider you now, but if you pay us 200 NONREFUNDABLE we might reconsider you after the deadline"

Okay, this is killing me. What are the first and second semester classes? I obviously have this list from the website, but it doesn't split it up into semesters. I can't believe that either I'm terrible at googling or I can't find a place that explicitly says what classes are when.

Required First-Year Courses:
Law 421 or 521, Contracts
Law 423 or 523, Criminal Law I
Law 427 or 527, Torts
Law 431 or 531, Property
Law 232, Legal Research and Legal Writing, taken once in the fall and once in the spring
Law 433 or 533, Civil Procedure
Law 434 or 534, Constitutional Law I

So basically I think you're put into sections. Each section has a different slate of classes. Some sections will take have some of those classes first semester, some will have them second semester but there is no set order (to my knowledge). This was posted in the Texas Law c/o 2018 thread by cannibal ox right before school started
cannibal ox wrote:For anyone who doesn't feel like deciphering that grid of every class offered next fall, I put together the schedule for 1Ls for fall of 2015.

The entire 1L class is split into 4 sections (1, 2, 3, and 4), and from there you'll have two classes with your large section, one small sized class with 1/3 of your section (example: section 1(A), 1(B), and 1(C)), and LRW with an even smaller section (1/4 of your section, example 1(1), 1(2), 1(3), and 1(4) -- this will be your mentor group, but you'll learn what that means later).

Hopefully I didn't make too many mistakes while lifting the info from the website and putting it here, and also I'm sure this schedule comes with a "we may change this at any time" warning from UT itself. But this should give you a decent idea of what type of hours in class and hours of down-time you can expect during fall 1L.

Which of these classes you take first or second semester will depend on your section. They won't release what section you are in until mid-late summer.

To anyone who has experience in negotiating scholarships with UT:

I saw on the scholarship reconsideration form that the reconsidered offer expires after 5 business days. Is that a hard deadline or has anybody been able to extend that deadline? Is their "one-time" condition for the reconsideration set in stone or has anyone gotten any leeway from them?

Basically, I'm wondering if I have the ability to hear an offer from UT and weigh that offer, or if I need to wait to submit the reconsideration form until I'm ready to pull the trigger. I'm between UT and 2 other schools and am still in the information gathering stage and I don't want to wait too long to renegotiate for fear of UT's money pool drying up.

Thanks!

As far as I know the reconsideration is a one shot thing. I waited to get all my final offers from other schools before bringing it to Texas. Once they get back to you about reconsideration they give you five days to accept the offer (which becomes binding) and start withdrawing from other schools. They also give you a week to sign a form which says that you will not attempt to further negotiate with them. The email also indicates that if you do not sign the form the new offer expires after ~ a week.

It's a change from prior years. I know of several people who were able to double deposit and eke out a few more bucks from them, but this year they seemed to have changed it up.

Just got my FAFSA back. If we got any grants, can we expect it for all three years? It was a pittance, but I didn't expect anything at all! Does the amount (hopefully) increase with the speedier turning in of the FAFSA form in the future?

I may be wrong here but when I spoke to financial aid, he made it sound like there was much less federal aid available for law and graduate students than there was for undergrad. So it's possible it might go up (though I don't think it'll be based on when you apply but rather on "need") but I doubt it would be a very substantial amount. I *think* I remember him saying that the max available per student in terms of federal aid was only a couple thousand (total) per semester via a few different grants. It is possible to get merit-based aid reconsideration based on your performance if you do well I think.

Yeah I don't think need aid is really a thing outside HYS

My grants were like 3K 1L and 3L and 4.2K 2L year so it's possible for them to go up a bit (and down lulz)

hmm okay thanks. I think the time does matter a little bit, because doesn't the "priority" FAFSA deadline mean something? I didn't turn it in before that deadline unfortunately. And lol I got less than 1k, would really like a 3-4k haha!
