iirc if you're not working over the summer, they expect a $2500 contribution. If you're working, they allow you up to $7500 in living expenses. This is just off the top of my head.curious bobcat wrote:What is this minimum contribution? I emailed w/ financial aid, and they told me that if my assets are "0" then my grant aid will be [COA-unit loans-parental contribution]. I also can't find any mention of a minimum contribution in here: https://www.law.yale.edu/system/files/a ... _Final.pdfKissMyAxe wrote:I'm pretty sure max need aid is around $36,000 a year. That's with 0 parental contribution and the minimum contribution they expect all students to have. But no, you're not going to have any luck negotiating your aid package. Whatever they give you is set in stone, and there's no one they want so much they'll bend those rules.haverchuck wrote:Ah thanks. I'm just trying to see if it's worth negotiating my aid package.curious bobcat wrote:I'm not 100% sure, but my understanding is that their calculation goes as such:haverchuck wrote:Does anyone know how much the maximum financial aid at Yale would be?
Student budget - your contribution (you + your parents, if applicable) - Unit loans (~44k this year) = need based grant.
So, if you want to figure out the max possible, just subtract the unit loan everyone has to take out from the student budget. Both of these numbers can I be found online. I think the result will be something around ~40k
And congrats on the new admits/commits. Looking forward to meeting you all. Again, feel free to PM me if you want to connect on facebook.

Re: Yale Law School Class of 2019
Thanks everyone. I did talk to the financial aid office and notified them of some changes in my assets as well. They adjusted my aid package, so it's pretty close to max aid. But I didn't try to leverage offers from S or H to negotiate it.WinterComing wrote:Axe is right that you can't just negotiate your aid package, in the sense that the rules are the rules and they're applied equally to everyone, but an aid offer being "set in stone" is perhaps a bit strong. I was initially offered $0, but then I worked with the financial aid office on how they were calculating my assets, and I was then given an updated offer of more than $0. Feel free to PM for more details, if you'd like.KissMyAxe wrote:I'm pretty sure max need aid is around $36,000 a year. Can confirm, as of yesterday, that snuggies are shipped internationally! It hailed and partially snowed for large chunks of yesterday, so the snuggie was much appreciated.
Also, I found the YLS financial aid office to be incredibly helpful and generous in person. I certainly didn't "negotiate" with them, or try to leverage an offer, but I did sit down with them at ASW and explain some mitigating factors, and they were more than happy to re-evaluate my aid package in a very timely manner.

How long does it usually take for them to cash the deposit? I'm just curious because I was sent a receipt of them receiving all my documents/my deposit last week, but they still haven't withdrawn the money from my account.

Can anyone confirm that I can decline Harvard with just an email to their general admissions account? I'm lazy.

That's what I did for absolutely everyone. I basically just thanked them for their time and for admitting me, but I decided to go another way with YLS. So confirmed.GrapesOfLaugh wrote:Can anyone confirm that I can decline Harvard with just an email to their general admissions account? I'm lazy.

There is a housing spreadsheet in the admitted students facebook.
I wonder if there are any current students lurking around TLS. I'm interested in learning when they post the new course listings.

Current student here, and I haven't heard when they are planning on posting next fall's course listing. If I remember correctly, they did email out a list of small group professors for next year, so at least that part of your schedule is already set. I look forward to seeing you all in the fall. Feel free to PM me if anyone has any questions!SamuelDanforth wrote:There is a housing spreadsheet in the admitted students facebook.

I sent you a pm about the list. I don't know if it is set in stone, so I won't post it here. Honestly though I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. You don't have any say in selecting your small group professor, and it isn't a huge deal which one you get. I hope you all enjoy your summer!birdstheword wrote:superpatton wrote:Current student here, and I haven't heard when they are planning on posting next fall's course listing. Nope. That e-mail made it seem as if we should have, but I think that was a mistake. The info packet says that we should receive it June 1st.

Is it just me or have Yale's electronic processes so far been kind of a disaster? Tons of people had issues trying to access financial aid information; my login doesn't work on half the sites and I can't tell what's a "NetID" and what isn't and what the login info I HAVE received is then; half the URLs end up at broken pages; I can't fulfill half the requirements because the sites don't work; AND I haven't heard back in response to my emails saying so. ?? Anyone else having a similar experience or do I just suck at everything?

Nah, same. But yeah that email was a mistake. If you look back at your deposit acknowledgment email it says to ignore it. Don't know why they could've, you know, just not sent it, but ok...birdstheword wrote:Is it just me or have Yale's electronic processes so far been kind of a disaster? Do you mean the ID Center email from about two days ago? It says we should have a photo uploaded by May 31st, and the deposit acknowledgment email says the ID center information will be due in early June. But the date it says to ignore is "an early May deadline," rather than the 31st. I assume it is, plus we can't access it anyway.jetsfan1 wrote:Nah, same. But yeah that email was a mistake. Yeah, that email was what I assumed prompted your question and what SamDan was referring too.incandenza11 wrote:Do you mean the ID Center email from about two days ago? The "early May" threw me as well, but since this is the only email we've gotten from the ID center, I'm guessing it's the one we're supposed to ignore.
Kinda funny though - they obviously knew this email was going to go out in error more than a month ago. Would it really have been that difficult not to send it?
ETA: I'd think we'll be getting our Net IDs this coming week. Kinda pumped to get my Yale email address. Out of curiosity, is all y'alls Harvard ones still working? Wondering when they're gonna get around to canceling that haha

We also haven't been given our Student IDs (different from NetIDs) to fill out that field in the financial aid notification & confirmation form.birdstheword wrote:I responded explaining why I couldn't do it.
