Serious question: How do you use class GPA information to judge how well you are doing based on your own GPA? I'm not sure how to feel about my grades.
+1. i read somewhere that the median is around 3.35 at cornell, so i know my GPA relative to that. but if someone could explain how to calculate what percentile you're in, based on the median GPA and your GPA, that would be cool. i'm bad at math.
We'll probably have to wait until they release cutoff for top 10% etc.

2L here been lurking to find info about when grades come out (thanks for being at least kind of as neurotic as we were last year, guys).

Just wanted to come here to say to those of you who might not have done as well as they'd hoped and are thinking about jumping off a bridge or something: don't despair about it. Anecdotally speaking, I got a B in most classes my first semester. Second semester I turned it around, figured out what went wrong, and did a lot better. Now I'll be working at a V20 firm. Law school can be a learning curve, especially for those of us who entered law school in the blind without a mentor or any legal experience. I know that for some of you, dreams of clerking and crushing it at Cravath or Wachtell have just gone down the drain, but recognize that that is the case for most of the class as well. I know that Lavitz was a great help this time last year when I was freaking out. Just remember that you're not done yet and nothing is set in stone. Feel free to PM me as well if you have any questions.

When they do, use this tool: http://mylsn.info/rank-estimator/

Throw in the 3.35 median (or the 'actual' ~3.45 median) and play around with other cutoffs (eg Dean's List / top 10%) for an estimate.

When and how are students informed of the cutoffs, CALI's, dean's list, etc.?

They should be sending out an official e-mail in the next couple days, which contains cutoffs (feel free to correct, 2Ls and 3Ls). I'm assuming CALI's are notified individually, but don't quote me on that.

You should all be requesting unofficial transcripts now to use when applying to jobs.

If they're as fast as they were last year with the 1Ls, any CALI awards will appear on the transcript now. If they're slow, then you have to wait a while before they show up on any transcript you order. Same applies to dean's list. Regardless, within a week or so, you should get an e-mail saying if you got a CALI. If you CALI'd ConLaw, the e-mail may come a few days after the regular e-mails, because it's a named prize.

I'm probably missing it, but I only see the option to request an official one. How do we request the unofficial one? I just saved the 'printer friendly' page as a PDF for now.

Should be able to get one here: http://www.lawschool.cornell.edu/registrar/forms.cfm

The grading policy sheet is now up online. Top 10% for c/o 2019 is currently a 3.8143. The actual median is never released (for good reason). I'm unsure whether the dean's list info has been calculated, but that's usually somewhere around a 3.6X, and you'll get a letter in the mail if you made Dean's list.

Does anyone know what top 10% and top 20% are?

Cornell doesn't publish the top 20%. They publish the Dean's List cutoff, which is the top 30% cutoff. The top 10% cutoff for c/o 2019 is above.

Alum SDNY clerk here. For those of you wanting to apply to intern in SDNY chambers, I recommend applying as soon as you can get a transcript. Things are moving fast down here.

Deans list is 3.645. Registrar said that's top 30% (as stated above).

Anyone know when this semester's loans will be disbursed? Mine still says "pending financial aid." I can't remember what (if anything) I did last semester, or if there's anything special I need to do.

You don't need to do anything special. Your disbursement will hit your bank account 1-3 days before actual class (not lawyering week) starts.

Loans are scheduled to disburse on January 17, 2017. The funds should hit your account one or two business days later.

Does anyone know roughly what GPA one would need for a Washington DC big law offer (for AJF, I mean)? I know it's hard to get, but I'm just wondering.

They'll give you guys gpa info when you start bidding for firms. And it depends on the firm and your interviewing skills. Shoot for being over 30% and you'll probably be in the range for several firms there. Top 10% or more for the fancier firms.

Any advice for Federal Income Taxation with Green? Tax is a subject I like, but I don't want to fuck this up. Thank you!
