Glad you started the thread, schoolboyQ. I mentioned in the acceptances thread that I'm visiting Miami next weekend. Kinda pumped about it. Haven't sent my deposit yet, but it's top 3 for me at the moment.

Awesome! What other schools are you considering at the moment, if you don't mind me asking?hotasaflamingcheetoh wrote:Glad you started the thread, schoolboyQ. You're going to love the city of Miami and UM. Have you been before?

Nah I don't mind at all. I am deciding between Temple and Miami, and then Marquette at significant scholarship.
Never been to Miami! I hear a lot of things, mostly great, and I am still in the process of booking the hotel or airbnb like someone mentioned in the other thread, haha. You live there? You going to ASW?

So where is everyone from? Floridians, non-Floridians who are attracted to the weather?

I'm from Fort Lauderdale originally, but have been all over the country over the past 6 years. Excited to get back down to South Florida and ideally stay there in the long run.
How about everyone else?

Orange County, So. Cal. Or Los Angeles, for those who aren't too familiar with the area!Uschoolqb10 wrote:I'll start!gatorgirl94 wrote:So where is everyone from? Floridians, non-Floridians who are attracted to the weather?

Checking in. I visited over my spring break (tough to get down there the rest of the semester). I haven't paid the deposit yet, but I will be there in the fall. I'll be coming down from NC.

161/3.4, got $32k. Was hoping to get more, but they essentially refused to negotiate. Argh. Just trying to decide between Tulane @ ~25k a year or Miami @ ~13k a year. It'll probably be Miami (UF student, family either in Florida or moving to Florida soon) but damn did I love Tulane/Nola.
It'll be nice to be have three more years of great football/basketball/baseball to watch though. Anyone know if law students get (preferably free) tickets for games?

If you pay the athletic fee at the beginning of the semester you get to go to all home games for freeshouston180 wrote:161/3.4, got $32k. Re: Miami Law c/o 2018
So has anyone started searching for apartments?
I have done some online searches and can't seem to find a 1/1 cheaper than ~$1,800 in Brickell or ~$1,600 in South Miami/Coral Gables.
Help!

Is having roommates out of the question for you? That sounds about right for a 1/1 in Brickell but you can definitely find something a little more reasonable in South Miami/Gables or in the Kendall/Pinecrest/Dadeland area. You can also probably check out Coconut Grove. Or you can share an apartment or house near campus with 1-2 roommates and easily stay under $1,000.Uschoolqb10 wrote:So has anyone started searching for apartments?

I'm moving down with my girlfriend, so we're splitting the payments 50/50. I was just hoping to stay well under $1,000 a person, but if not possible, then that's fine.hillary clinton wrote:Is having roommates out of the question for you? Ideally, I would like to stay as close to campus as possible, but I am also becoming more intrigued by Brickell as each day passes, it seems. Via quick searches on apartments.com and hotpads.com, I see there are a couple of spots available in Brickell for roughly the same price per square foot as the places in Coral Gables right next to campus. I might be interested in that.
When are y'all going to begin your apartment searches? I'm sure now is too early, but I definitely don't want to start too late.

Re: Miami Law c/o 2018
I saw a whole discussion going on on the Class of 2018 FB page about the pros and cons of living in Brickell versus near campus. You should definitely check that out if you haven't already. I would start looking within the next month or so if I were you. I already have my place secured because I live down here but when speaking to the leasing office for Valencia (one of the apartment buildings ~5 mins from campus), they mentioned that the ideal time to start looking is around May/towards the end of the school year.Uschoolqb10 wrote:I'm moving down with my girlfriend, so we're splitting the payments 50/50.
