Re: Vanderbilt Class of 2018
Pretty sure the majority of their schollies run 25/year, 35/year, and like 5 law scholars a year. Occasional one-time 5k to sweeten the pot. Folks in the poll holding out for that full scholarship are likely to be disappointed.
That said, they seem to be the most generous of schools in the range I'm hoping for a scholarship. I've been super impressed by their admissions office and loved my interviewer. Any other Texans considering the jump to Nashville?

I'll be disappointed (read: withdrawing) with a lowball scholly offer considering my offers at T14s. I think it should come in today, so we'll see. I'm very impressed with Vanderbilt and would love to attend at the right price. My brother actually is there for graduate school, so I'm familiar with the school and the Nashville area.rkspurs21 wrote:Pretty sure the majority of their schollies run 25/year, 35/year, and like 5 law scholars a year. According to the 509 linked above, Vandy gave out zero (0.0 metric) full scholarships last year. It seems your comment above is very accurate.

Re: Vanderbilt Class of 2018
I think there's something weird with how the 509s count those. In the Chicago thread someone posted that Chicago's 509 lists 9 full scholarships over three years - but we know there have been 60. There must be some technical piece that affects how they are counted. We know Vanderbilt gives out four full scholarships (and one of those is on TLS).Wipfelder wrote:According to the 509 linked above, Vandy gave out zero (0.0 metric) full scholarships last year. Actually, now that you mention it, below the line "full tuition=0" there is a "more than full tuition=19" line. So that must be the full tuition guys. There is probably a small stipend or some shit that makes it more than full. Good call. Its been a rough week for me.nickhalden wrote:I think there's something weird with how the 509s count those. What would you consider lowballing? I got in to some t-14s but don't anticipate any money, so Vandy is my best shot for an affordable chance at my goals after law school.nickhalden wrote:I'll be disappointed (read: withdrawing) with a lowball scholly offer considering my offers at T14s. I would consider $105,000 (what I'll probably get) a generous offer, but not financially reasonable for me at this point.rkspurs21 wrote:What would you consider lowballing? Ah, to be in your position...Unfortunately, it doesn't appear they have anything between that and the Scholars. The way they have it set up is ideal for folks that are competitive for admission to t14 but doesn't provide much incentive for folks getting full rides in that range.nickhalden wrote:I would consider $105,000 a lowball offer.rkspurs21 wrote:What would you consider lowballing? Re: Vanderbilt Class of 2018
I was waitlisted at Vandy last year before retaking this year, so it's been a ride! I'll get the $105,000, but it wouldn't be financially reasonable for me to attend at that level. I haven't (and won't) receive a full scholly in the T14. I was really hoping for a Law Scholar Merit Award, but I think that time has come and gone.rkspurs21 wrote:Ah, to be in your position...Unfortunately, it doesn't appear they have anything between that and the Scholars. If his/her #s are where I'm betting they are 35/yr sounds about right from vandy going off of lsn.nickhalden wrote:I would consider $105,000 (what I'll probably get) a generous offer, but not financially reasonable for me at this point.rkspurs21 wrote:What would you consider lowballing? Yeah there are no exact full tuition awards. The past two years there have been 4 law scholar awards per year.Wipfelder wrote:Actually, now that you mention it, below the line "full tuition=0" there is a "more than full tuition=19" line. Also, your first award might not be the law scholars even if you are being considered for it. I have heard through the grapevine that they are interviewing some students for it next week.

Well don't lose hope if you aren't a first-round pick. I wasn't and still got it. At least some of them will turn it down to go elsewhere.nickhalden wrote:I haven't received an interview invite and I'm probably not being considered for it.arklaw13 wrote:Also, your first award might not be the law scholars even if you are being considered for it. so what does everyone think...is it rude to negotiate when they explicitly say they don't negotiate?

Re: Vanderbilt Class of 2018
Well I would say if it is the difference between not attending with current offer and possibly attending with better offer, than you might as well try. If you are just on the fence, maybe you should wait until you know what would push you one way or the other. But that is just my opinion and probably not worth too much.fa1493 wrote:so what does everyone think...is it rude to negotiate when they explicitly say they don't negotiate?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
