Hey, so a similar conversation is going on in the full 2018 forum, but I thought I would post on here. I've basically decided on Vandy, but would be paying almost sticker price. For those of you who chose Vandy, what made you feel that it was worth the price? Or am I the only person paying that much? Vandy is by far my 1st choice, but I occasionally panic about the debt. I know it's a loaded question. Just wanted to throw it out there.

Vandy 2L here who would not pay sticker, and I've had awesome outcomes. You need to retake and get a better outcome next cycle.

Ya im kinda just doing it to do it. Waited as long as I could hold out before the deadline. I mean hey, they said they would only reimburse me 400 for ASW and they ended up giving me 500.....maybe its a sign of things to come

I've settled on the grove since I'm going to be in a 1BR 1L and don't want to be too isolated. I'm going to try to get to Nashville to look at apartments but might end up just going on the word of the obiter thing

Vandy at sticker is pretty 'ballsy' though.......I think the top dudes get great short-term financial outcomes, but your access to markets starts to fall off dramatically.

Maybe he means that access drops dramatically as you go deeper into the class, which is true. If not, he's wrong. The top people aren't limited any more than they would be at another school (i.e. Chi/SF are always going to be hard without ties).

What do you think about median numbers for someone who wants to go to Chi? I'm from there and went to UG here. Any tie I have is back here. This is really the main thing holding me back from Vandy - I'd love to get your opinion.

At median I'd be surprised if many Chi firms looked at you. Greenberg took a couple people this year, maybe their grade cutoffs were lower (I don't know who the people are that are going there, so I can't speculate what their grades are), but everyone else I know of who is going to a Chi firm has good grades, like top 20% and up.

Honestly, I don't know who the people at median are, so I can't be of much help. To the extent that people around median get biglaw jobs (which is iffy), I imagine it's either NYC firms or smaller southern markets (other than Nashville, which is very grade selective).

Looking at where 3Ls summered, the biggest southern markets (in no particular order) are:
Nashville (grade and tie selective; also people go to knoxville/chatanooga/memphis)
Atlanta (not really small, but smaller than people give it credit for)
Birmingham (not particularly grade and tie-selective, in my experience, but you'll need one or the other)
Charlotte (although basically no one targets there)
Florida (fuck your life if you want florida, but some people get it)
Lexington
