We don't have the ASW schedule yet, right? I'm scrambling to find a flight from SFO to HVN but wow-- this is painful. I'm leaving in the evening since I don't have too much PTO left, and it's now looking like a $600 10 hour flight with 1 stop, arriving +1 day? What in the.

If you're not bringing crazy luggage with you, try coming in JFK or LGA, even Newark if somehow that ends up being cheaper. You can get to Grand Central relatively easy from those airports and then take a train from there to New Haven.
It would probably save you a lot of money.

YLS was pretty strong in discouraging travel to Tweed. I booked into Hartford and plan to drive down to New Haven (~45min).

Why is this? Would love to know because Tweed is the same price for me as the others. I'm currently debating on whether to attend ASW... It would be a $630 flight (to/from nevada) and 13hr each way. =Pcc78 wrote:YLS was pretty strong in discouraging travel to Tweed. I booked into Hartford and plan to drive down to New Haven (~45min).

Let them know finances are an issue and you might qualify for a need based subsidy. I applied for one and got it. Flying from SFO so I feel you.kraith wrote:Why is this? It's all about limited service and price--only one carrier=bad juju. I'm glad LC brought up the hardship appeal. It's great they recognize that getting to Yale from some parts is really expensive.kraith wrote:Why is this? Would love to know because Tweed is the same price for me as the others. Anybody get their initial aid award yet? I know the FB page said on Feb 10 that they were hoping to go out with the first awards at the end of the month...

I'm really excited/nervous for the news. On the one hand, I'm thinking I should get a decent offer but I'm trying to avoid developing expectations in case I'm disappointed. It does make it really hard for me to gauge how good my alternatives are...Pau.C. wrote:Not yet. But I just submitted my need access recently, so I don't expect to hear for a while.lc39 wrote:Anybody get their initial aid award yet? I just have no idea what to expect when it does come. On some of the previous Yale threads, some people say they are really generous while others say they were surprised to get almost nothing.

I have a quite interesting compilation of perspectives from current Yale students whom I contacted. If anyone is interested in the reading material, free feel to PM me. Warning: it will be long.

I highly recommend it. Very helpful to read things about YLS that say something other than it's the best place on planet Earth--the perspectives were honest detailed, and balanced.macha wrote:I have a quite interesting compilation of perspectives from current Yale students whom I contacted. I'd really love to hear what other options you amazing people are considering!
For those who answered on the poll that they're still torn/pretty sure you're going somewhere else, mind sharing what other schools you're considering and why? What are you leaning towards?
For those who are certain you're going to Y-- what are you turning down instead and what makes you confident of your decision (specifically over those other options)?

I'm the lone "pretty sure I'm going somewhere else" vote. I want to work in SF and my friends, family, and SO are all in California. If I don't take Stanford it will (most likely) be for scholarship $$$ elsewhere. I'm waiting to see how need aid shakes out before deciding.flomotion wrote:I'd really love to hear what other options you amazing people are considering!

Re: Yale Law School Class of 2018
Kind of like Axe, I have atypical goals that actually make Yale's setup ideal for me. I too would likely have to be kidnapped and tortured in New Haven for me to not go to Yale. And, since I'm heading up there soon, they will have their chance. In terms of what I turned down, I had full rides in the lower T-14+ and an interview for the RTK. I still have Stanford, which would be the only school I'd go to in lieu of Yale.flomotion wrote:I'd really love to hear what other options you amazing people are considering!

Re: Yale Law School Class of 2018
In regards to comments regarding flights into Tweed: I almost always recommend flying in elsewhere as i) Tweed tends to be more expensive and ii) flights to/from Tweed often get delayed (limited # of flights, single destination, small aircraft). I flew there for ASW a few years back with no problems but had several not-so-great experiences during my time at YLS. Often easier to fly into NYC and train it up to New Haven (super easy) or fly into Hartford and rent a car.
If anyone has any travel questions regarding New Haven and the surrounding area, please feel free to let me know. Best of luck to everyone as you finalize your decisions! Given your amazing backgrounds and range of choices, you will surely be happy whatever your decision may be!
