Has anyone received scholarship info yet? Would love to attend UCLA, but couldn't justify it at full cost.

Who's going to the Admitted Student Day next week? I'm currently weathering a bunch of snow on the east coast so I'm excited to get to LA!

Can anyone report on housing? Did they only show Weyburn/Hilgard?

Anyone care to report back generally? I'm curious about the financial aid counseling, personally...

Re: UCLA Class of 2018
The financial aid counseling was not that helpful. The only thing I found out was how they calculate your big law SA position to take away from any 3rd year need aid.
Communicate now with those who not only know what a legal education is, but can offer you worthy advice and commentary as you complete the three most educational, yet challenging years of your law related post graduate life.

Re: UCLA Class of 2018
I didn't take part in the FA counseling, so I can't speak to that. But in general I really like UCLA. Definitely a better environment than USC (who's facilities really work against it, I think). The campus is gorgeous. I spoke with Dean Moran briefly and she was very nice. I was at a lunchtime alumni talk early in the day and she referred to several of the students by name, which seems like a good sign, and I think she has a very forward-thinking vision for the school. The four student ambassadors I had in my small Q&A were very open about their experiences and seemed to genuinely like the school (as opposed to some of the other schools I've been to where the student ambassadors felt like cheerleader robots). Clinical opportunities seem copious and well structured. They have a grant program to support students working in a public interest capacity during the summer, which is very compelling if you're interested in PI. Their orientation is a week long and includes a class to prep you for what you'll be doing in school, which I think is great. I'm a little concerned about some of the other schools who's orientation seems to consist entirely of a copule of days of student mixers and tours. Overall, a very positive experience for me.Dipper wrote:Anyone care to report back generally? I'm curious about the financial aid counseling, personally...

Re: UCLA Class of 2018
I think the financial aid counseling was mostly for answering questions you had so it probably varied from person to person. Basic stuff we went over:
-The reevaluation of need-aid every year
-What to do if you take out too much or too little in loans
-Availability of a bunch of small grants in 2L year
-On campus positions and fee remission
On another note they did share what their new employment numbers were so far (I think they report to the ABA on the 15th) and they are now at like 78% for Bar Passage Required/JD Advantage positions. Their employment figures in general seemed to be slightly on the rise. Nothing ground breaking but still better than if they had been stagnant or declining. I'm choosing to be optimistic about it all.

Re: UCLA Class of 2018
What exactly did they say about this? I'm assuming that, barring a dramatic change in your financial situation or their funding, it should remain relatively consistent each year. Did they address that?giantswan wrote:-The reevaluation of need-aid every year

Re: UCLA Class of 2018
Yeah they basically just talked about having to fill out Need Access and FAFSA again and said the aid remains fairly consistent if your financial situation doesn't change too much. I think the most important thing I took away with regards to the need-aid reevaluation was that the on campus positions are not considered when they reevaluate.spencercross wrote:What exactly did they say about this?
