Any idea how fast Regents fills up? Seems like a nice place but I'm going to have to wait til March or April to make any decisions.Wahrheit wrote:Seriously considering Regents for the social aspect, among other things.Mack.Hambleton wrote:anyone know where they are living yet?

I got the impression from the Chicago students' thread that typically you put yourself on the list over ASW if you wanted to live there, but actual lease-signing would happen more towards late summer/move in times? Correct me if I'm wrong.LawBron James wrote:Any idea how fast Regents fills up? Regents doesn't fill up, so you have plenty of time to decide. Even well into the school year they will have open units.
This is because it's big and also ridiculously expensive compared to almost everywhere else in the area...I mean, it is a luxury apartment after all and Hyde Park isn't a desirable neighborhood. I currently live in Chicago and am not willing to jump from $600/month including utilities to $1,200 or so for a studio at Regents. I haven't decided where I'll look for next year (I'll have to move...my current place is far from campus and I don't have a car) but I've heard the University-owned studio apartments are actually decent and closer to 700-800/month.
There's also this place called TLC rentals with decently priced places in Hyde Park. I have no experience with their company though http://chicagorentals.com/
Are any of you looking for roommates, or planning to do studio/1BR?
I'm so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

def going to look into getting a roommate...ideally I would be splitting the cost of a 1BR with significant other, but that's not very likely

Re: The University of Chicago Law School Class of 2018
Some REALLY bad (stealing my books, clothes, food, etc...), some mildly bad/annoying, but mostly I've just had enough of cleaning up after others - especially in the kitchen. For my last two years of UG I lived in a house with 6 (!) roommates so I've probably had enough for a lifetime. I currently just have one roommate but they're moving next fall so I think it may be the perfect opportunity to try out the solo-living life.
I get what you mean about the weirdness, though...my first summer alone was odd but I'm the type who really enjoys it. I'm sure you'll find someone else who wants a roommate, and it does significantly cut the cost!

This. I've been lucky in that through UG and afterwards I've essentially only lived with my best friends, and by and large it was great and fun, but my last roommate was absolutely disgusting when it came to the kitchen, which is where I'm super anal. Also, some of my very nice kitchen equipment was treated very poorly, which also loses me $.whereselizabeth wrote:...mostly I've just had enough of cleaning up after others - especially in the kitchen.
I just want an only-me space. If I want to blast T Swift, I can. If I want to plaster the walls with shirtless photos of Vladimir Putin, I can. I want my home situation to be a democracy no longer. I want to rule it with an iron fist.

I've toured regents with a friend who lives there and it is nice but looks a bit dated
If I attend I'm also thinking about living in south loop

Re: The University of Chicago Law School Class of 2018
Congrats to all of you - hope to see you here next year!
Shoreland is fantastic, living here now after living in grad housing last year. I loved grad housing for the price, but this is a much nicer apartment with a fantastic view, so it's worth it to me. Happy to answer any questions about it (or anything else, of course). I will say that Shoreland's gym is shit. Two ellipticals, three treadmills, and similarly basic strength training equipment.
There's actually a bunch of 1L's living here this year, in addition to three of us 2L's. To my knowledge, only one 1L lived there last year.
