Today I got a bubbly one about how my deposit is accepted and seat is confirmed etc etc. It also told me to carpe diem my summer and go skydiving should the mood strike.

Kind of freaking out bc I never filled out the scholarship acceptance form - they upped their offer April 30th via e-mail and I forgot. Do you think it will be okay if I fill it out a week late? They upped their offer on April 30th and it hasn't been updated in the system yet so I'm not sure if I should even fill it out yet...

Hey all! I took over the OP from Dog and am hoping to make this thread a bit more active. I'm about to update the poll (and will try to every week or so, so let me know if you have any suggestions!), and planning to add a bunch of stuff to the OP over the next couple of days. Stay tuned.

A bunch of new links have been added to the OP! I also found last year's orientation schedule and pre-matriculation guide, if anyone is interested. I don't want to confuse people by posting them in the OP since they're not for this year.

Ah, orientation. A surprising amount of pomp and circumstance.hearsay77 wrote:A bunch of new links have been added to the OP! New poll up!
I was going to do the where are you going to live one, but Chicago has so many damn neighborhoods and I'm totally not familiar with the area so I got confused. Will do that in the future. (If anyone wants to give me a good breakdown of the neighborhoods, that would be awesome too )

I think your question would better be answered in the NU 1L/2L/3L/Grads Taking Questions thread, since most of us in this thread don't live in Chicago yet!Kinky John wrote:Georgetown c/o 2018: 69 pages

I asked in the thread hearsay brought up about things to do in Chicago since I am moving there next month and this was someone's response.
Holly Golightly wrote: Hang out on the beach and drink. Check out rooftop bars downtown. Explore the museums and Lincoln Park Zoo. Get a divvy bike and ride around on the lake path. Explore the many drunk brunch options. Go to some Sox games and a rooftop at a Cubs game (but fuck the Cubs, go Sox). Check out Humboldt Park (the actual park). Find someone with a rooftop pool to hang out with. Hang out in Millennium and Grant Parks. Go up to Milwaukee during Summerfest (you can take a bus or train). While there, drink Spotted Cow and eat a bunch of cheese curds.

Looking at last year's thread they found out their sections on Caesar on August 20 (5 days before the start of orientation). I'm pretty sure during orientation some of the events we are split up by our sections.hearsay77 wrote:Anyone know when we will get more information on sections/first semester classes/etc? I signed a lease to live in Streeterville during 1L. While I'd prefer to live in Old Town, Lakeview, or Lincoln Park, I figure for 1L it makes sense to make my life as easy as possible especially with how much time we will be spending at school. I used sites like Zillow, Trulia, Padmapper, etc to search for listing, but also called some of the bigger places that had their own leasing offices (Seneca, Axis, McClurg, etc). One thing I would recommend is search for apartments and call them directly. The place I signed at doesn't advertise on Zillow or any other site, but they ended up being cheaper and better maintained than some of the other, more popular options.
Feel free to PM me if you want more details on my place and the other apartments I checked out near the law school.

I get excited every time I check out an apartment online, but then I remember the loan budget. $14,040 for rent + food for 9 months ($18,234 if you include personal and transportation) works out to $1170 ($1520)/month for 12 months. Not bad, just feels like it's cutting it close. That's grad student life, I guess
