so we can't apply for housing before we make a deposit and formally enroll right? It looks like space in Hughes is very limited but the earliest I would make a deposit would be in March or April after I visit. It would probably be full by then right?

You can apply in the housing portal before you make the deposit. (Housing portal's not updated yet. Maybe in about a month.) Then assignments are usually made in April. Previously, you had to make the deposit before getting the actual assignment, but there were some reports last year of people getting an assignment even though they never sent in a deposit. If you don't get an initial assignment, you'll be put on a waitlist and may still get it as people withdraw from Cornell / decide on different housing.

This is assuming Hughes still exists (they've been saying "this is the last year of Hughes" for at least the past 2 years).

ok that makes sense! I checked the housing portal and it still has 2014-2015 up, I guess I'll have to wait

I also have a quick financial aid question: If we didn't file any taxes in 2013 or 2014, what should we submit instead of copies of our taxes? or can we just submit nothing?

I have no idea. You should probably e-mail financial aid to ask / let them know so they don't sit there waiting for you to submit something.

If you submitted non-filing letters (statement that you didn't have to pay taxes) you use those. If you didn't, then yeah call financial aid.

Definitely possible considering I've been waiting 2 years for mine.

Super excited of getting an acceptance today.

I have a question regarding need aid and international status.

For merit aid, all I need to fill out in the financial aid form, but for need-aid it says i gotta fill out the needaccess form. Are international students eligible to fill this out?

How much aid usually goes out in need-aid?

I assume so because
NeedAccess FAQ wrote:Q - I am an international student and I don’t have a U.S. Social Security number. How do I find my Application ID to give to my parents?
Log in and click “Step 1: Identify Applicant” from the My Applications page.
canadianbrother wrote:How much aid usually goes out in need-aid?
No way to tell because they don't segregate merit and need amounts when they give out awards. So it appears as one sum and you don't know how much was from which source. But probably not much goes into need. A few years ago, one of the adcomms said they were starting to focus more on merit aid to be more competitive with other schools.

Congrats to the new admits! Finally broke down and emailed Cornell about my missing acceptance letter. They said it must have gotten lost in the mail and they'll send me another one.
