are housing applications handled on a rolling basis? or are you guaranteed housing in Gewriz if you submit the application by the deadline?

thanks Grey! from now on I'm just gonna forward all my GULC questions to you because you seem to have the answers for all of them hahasmccgrey wrote:Lucky for you, I just spent all afternoon browsing the ASWsupersplittysplitter wrote:are housing applications handled on a rolling basis? or are you guaranteed housing in Gewriz if you submit the application by the deadline? In mid-May, a lottery for first-year students will be conducted to assign apartment styles based on preference. If there are more applicants than spaces available, this lottery will also determine the order of the waiting list. To enter the lottery, the housing application and non-refundable $150 processing fee must be received in the Office of Residence Life by May 15, 2015. Once you have been assigned an apartment, the Office of Residence Life must receive your signed Occupancy Agreement by June 15, 2015. Cancellation after June 15th will result in a $400 fee to your Georgetown Law student account.
The housing application will be available in the spring.

They're in the same ballpark, but at the lower end by some metrics. Check out http://abovethelaw.com/2013/04/which-to ... graduates/Lions1913 wrote:Checking in here. A bit confused about the employment numbers though. My reading is that they are indeed competitive with the rest of the T14, but perhaps I am wrong.
If you actually look at the ABA required report (http://www.law.georgetown.edu/careers/o ... y-Info.pdf), it says that 4.65% of GULC class of 2013 are seeking employment, which isn't bad (Harvard is 2%, Berkeley is 3%) but you wouldn't want to be one of those 30 students.
Compare that to the national statistics (granted, from 2012) http://abovethelaw.com/careers/law-school-rankings/ that says 11% of that years total law school graduates are seeking work.
It's a somewhat sobering reminder that there is no golden ticket; to make law school worth it you can't just coast on the name of your school.

Thanks for the link; I've seen the employment statistics broken out a lot of ways, but never like that.

Thanks! I'll do the same.navykev wrote:I just emailed the admissions office -- got replies either via mail or email that they had recieved my request and have withdrawn my application.xtgg5020 wrote:checking in!
Does anyone know how to withdraw applications from other law schools? Do I just need to email the admission office? Or is there a web page to do this?

Checking in. Will be attending next fall. Thanks to Grey for creating this thread. Anyone have any insight as to the pros/cons of living in on campus housing?

I've heard that it's like living as a freshman in college with an RA again and you can't have guests past 10 PM.TeddyBallgame wrote:Checking in. Will be attending next fall. Thanks to Grey for creating this thread. Anyone have any insight as to the pros/cons of living in on campus housing?
Plus, according to the website members of the clergy live in the same complex. Hardly an ideal living situation even without the burden of Catholic guilt.

Does anyone have any insight to their scholarship process?
I hear that unlike every other school that says it's a mix of merit and need, GULC gives solid need aid.

Checking in!
So most of you are going to attend one of the admitted students weekends? I'd like to but I think it's going to be a long shot for me to be able to fly out, especially since I'm going to be in DC the week before the March one. The timing almost worked out.

What's the difference between the January and March open houses and admitted student days? Are the admitted student days less thorough? The dates still aren't up on the website

Hi! Checking in... I was admitted in October and I'm deciding between Georgetown and another school, but GULC has always been my top choice... Anyone attending the Admitted Students Days in January?

Current 1L here: I can't speak to need-based aid (though I don't know anyone that got any), but merit is definitely doable if you're willing to put in the work. And it does require some real work. Not, like, Northwestern putting you on hold and making you write four additional essays for continued consideration (been there), but not far off.canadianbrother wrote:Does anyone have any insight to their scholarship process?

Typically, if they deem you worthy (and this means nothing in the long run) they send out a feeler email to see if you're "interested" in getting merit aid, as if anyone going to law school might somehow not be interested in paying less. They'll make you pitch them an amount and explain why you want it, what it would mean to you, and all that crap. They also give you a writing prompt where you get to do a fun little essay in the hopes of money. And then you wait. I got my first offer the day before deposits were due, but I was able to negotiate a bit more over the course of the summer. Be persistent and fight hard, and you can make it happen.
FYI, don't fret if you don't get the feeler email. I didn't get one either. Just email admissions and express your interest in being considered for financial aid and they'll most likely forward you that email. I'm not sure when they start sending this stuff out (I think I was doing this around the beginning of March last year), but you've definitely got time.
