Is it worth it going to law school outside of the United States?

I’ve considered applying to the London School of Economics for a Master of Laws. Is it the same thing as a JD here in the US?

No. First, it's a different degree, and second, it won't license you to practice law in the United States (or in the UK, as far as I can tell; that's the LLB).

So whether the degree is worth it depends on what you want to do with it.

I've seen this a few times on the bios of U.S. lawyers. Not sure what to think of it.

As noted, you need to make sure you have the right degree. I don’t think you’re eligible to practice with just a Master of Laws. You also need to be ready to live abroad permanently. The path back to America is not impossible, but given the uncertainties, you need very special reasons to take it when you can just go to an American school.

You should pay attention to the tuition. At least for Canadian schools, merit aid options are limited. I think you’ll be in the same boat with LSE.

The only place outside of the US you could really go is Canada as they also have the JD, but I don’t know why you would want to.
