Not really true. You can take the California Bar and I believe a few other bars if you are a foreign barred attorney, which you would be if you're in a dual degree program and you pass the bar in your other country. So in this case you'd take the bar in China and then sign up for the California bar.

There is also a growing trend for Chinese lawyers and law students to take the Palau bar (which is apparently super easy and just multiple choice), and then sign up for the California bar.

But this program is clearly aimed at Chinese students anyway, and probably the Chinese students who are not qualified enough or don't have enough money to attend law school in the USA. I'm pretty sure the idea is not so much that it's meant to train lawyers who will jump over to America as much as work for Chinese firms and companies and at least have a basic knowledge of American/common law.

Yes this program is for Chinese and NO this is not a bad school at all. In fact, it is the "Yale" of China.
Peking University is famous for 文科(social science and humanity) and Tsinghua University is the best for 理科 (engineering, physics, chemistry etc. ) These two are without a doubt the Top2 in China.

The law program offered by Renmin University of China is well-known as well. But just like comparing Yale with Stanford, there is almost no difference.
I'm pretty sure the idea is not so much that it's meant to train lawyers who will jump over to America as much as work for Chinese firms and companies and at least have a basic knowledge of American/common law.
100% correct. The law system in mainland China is not common law. Most of those who dream to work in an american/western firm choose to get a JD in the states because a JD degree is considered to be 'more valuable' in China.

I don't know what it is like in the states. But in China a practicing certificate/bar exam is not so important to employer. What matters is your critical thinking and social skills. And that is why a JD 含金量更多, is 'more valuable'.

My advice: Go there only if you are interested in comparative law or want to be a researcher/ professor. This program is almost useless if you just want to be an attorney.

Beida is a great university, but this program is pretty much worthless if you aren't Chinese.
