NY Law Component

Post by Yankees1313 » Tue Feb 06, 2018 3:01 pm

Hello all,

I understand there is a New York specific course and exam to take for admission to NY. I just wanted to see if any of you have taken it, and if so, do you know how much of a time commitment this exam is? After the 15 hour course, is there a lot of other studying necessary prior to taking the exam?

The New York Law Exam is a cakewalk. Just print out the notes, gloss over them 3 days before the exam, and then take the exam. You don't even have to look at the videos. You'll be fine.

I took and passed it, it's not that bad but you ARE require to do the NYLC with the videos - it is expressly stated that they audit your time and if you are found under the time there can be consequences. There are also questions integrated into the lectures that you need to answer. Just wanted to clarify that because I think L_William meant you can just let the videos run and then answer the questions after they finish. I printed out the materials and put them in a small binder, read through them, and then I used tabs for different subjects and on "weak" areas I put a small tab on and wrote what the sub-topic/issue was. It made it easy and fast to look up the answers if I needed to look.

Are you asking because you did not go to law school in New York by chance?

You're right. I should've been more clear. Watching the videos is mandatory, but it's not necessary in order to be able to pass. Just take a cursory look at your notes for about an hour starting 3 days before the exam.

No worries, I figured as much but wanted to reiterate it just because I've heard lately that some people have not paid as close attention to the guidelines as possible and then had to pay the price because of the time audit. But you're right with the materials, i took the extra step of tabbing and what have you just to be safe.
