162 MBE carry me on 2nd exam?

Post by fallingup77 » Fri Jan 12, 2018 11:22 pm

Passed TX bar exam in July 2017 with a 162 on the MBE. My firm requires me to also take AR bar this February, thankfully AR takes my MBE score. In AR, MBE is 50%, MEE is 33% and MPT is 17%. Need 270 to pass. I’m working full time and finding it impossible to get motivated to study for another exam. I’ve read that a high enough score on the MBE can all but assure passage, but I still feel like I need to kill myself studying for this thing. Thoughts?

holy shit 162 on your mbe?? wow.. that sure sounds impressive.
However, whatever people say about high enough MBE scores guaranteeing an automatic pass is total bs in my opinion. I mean, granted, people who know their stuff so well as to get a 162 on their mbe will most likely do just as well on the essays. Besides, you passed the July 2017 bar exam, so the information that was in your head is most likely not totally gone. Just do like a quick reminder studies and you'll probably be good to go.

It is not, in some states once your MBE reached a certain score, your essay will not even be graded. You are autopass.

Unless you completely fuck up on the MPT (i.e. getting a 0), you're good to go. I'd worry more about the essays than the MPT

Thanks for the replies everyone! Test is a month away and I've studied about an hour for it.

With your scaled MBE score of 162, you would need a written score of 108 to pass the exam with a total score of 270. Assuming that the MEE/MPT percentiles follow the Feb 2016 national MBE statistics (2017 haven't been released yet), scoring a 108 Scaled MEE/MPT score would place you in the 4.3% percentile among examinees nationwide (meaning that 95.7% of Feb 2016 examinees nationwide would have scored better than you on the MEE/MPT, but you would have passed the exam). Of the 401 failing examinees who sent me their UBE scores, 6.7% had a written of 108 or less. So basically you want to be better than about 5-7% of the examinees taking the MEE/MPT to ensure passing. My guess is that if you were close to passing on 4 essays and the 2 MPTs, you could skip the other 2 essays and still pass (not recommended).

Wow. Thanks so much for the detailed analysis. I just double checked my score and actually got a 165, so I’ve got a bit more screw up space than I previously thought. I will probably spend the next month re-learning my lean sheets and call it good.
