Barbri Simulated MBE

Post by S0M21L » Sun Jun 25, 2017 8:45 pm

Good Evening!

I just completed Barbri's Simulated MBE, the July 2016/February 2017 edition.

If anyone would be willing to share their Barbri Simulated MBE score and their actual MBE score, this would greatly help me correlate the relationship (if any) between these exams.

Thank you so much for considering it. I'm happy this board and resource exists! :D

Dang, so the Barbri simulated MBE isn't a very good indicator, huh?

That isn't necessarily true for various reasons:

1. The simulated exam it is about 1/2 way through the study period so it should be expected that more knowledge would be acquired in the remaining month.

2. The simulated exam gives a raw score where the actual MBE is curved, not to mention the 25 "test" questions on the MBE that aren't graded

3. The simulated exam also had "harder" questions in totality than the actual MBE.

They tell you you should expect about a 16-20 point increase on average on the actual exam (if memory serves).

Good luck to everyone taking the exam next month!

I just stuck to the Barbri schedule of lectures and problem sets as far as MBE goes. Didn't do any outside MBE questions. I don't remember the breakdown of questions pre/post simulated MBE but I worked a little over 1100 Barbri questions total. When I say "worked", I didn't simply answer them and move on. I took time after question sets to review all four answer choices regardless of whether I got the question right or wrong. (We all know that sometimes we get lucky and guess the right answer even if we don't know the right reasons, so if you only review the questions you get wrong you will be cheating yourself.)

Is anyone interested in meeting in Queens that is using Barbri to go over topics and questions? Please send me a message if you're interested.

If this link works, it's a collection of Simulated MBE and Actual Scaled MBE from 2015 and 2016.

First time:

Simulated (BARBRI): 103
Actual: 126

Second time:

Simulated (NCBE QUESTIONS): 138
Actual: 141

If anyone wants an Adaptibar discount code to access real released questions from the NCBE, let me know! I would need your email address. I've got a discount code for Critical Pass flashcards too.

The average score on the simulated MBE last year was 113. You're effectively tracking above the mean in preparation for an exam in which the bar for passing is actually well below that (read: you can score south of the 50th percentile and pass comfortably - well over half of test-takers pass the exam).
I don't think you should be crying.

That's not bad actually! Thats the range you want to be in at this point. I had a 128 and passed with a 147, so just keep practicing and review those answers.

Worth it to watch the videos of analysis this weekend, or will working with the explanatory answers suffice?

Got a 124. Is that good? Hopefully the actual MBE is a lot better.
