June 2017 NYLE Thread

Post by ernie » Mon Jun 12, 2017 12:36 am

NYLE is on Thurs. People who have already taken NYLE: should I hold off on bar prep Tues/Weds to cram for NYLE?

From what past takers have said, it seems like reading through the outline and then ctrl+ f during the exam (if you have a searchable PDF) or printing and tabbing a paper copy should be enough. I'm planning on doing the above and am hoping it's enough. I'm just worried whether the exam feels time-pressured. If anyone can speak to that, it'd be helpful. Obviously we'd like to do the bare minimum and pass lol.

Just tried to Ctrl F the NY course materials and the document is secured, I can't search anything. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Started reading the outline and there's no way I'm going to retain any of this. Past threads seem to indicate you don't really need to study for the NYLE, so hoping that's the case.

Also saw in some old threads that the first few questions in the last administration were time-consuming hypos, just a heads up.

I know that they disabled the control+f feature or something for the latest materials so that people actually have to learn the material #dumb. If you have the material from October or earlier, then you can control+f using that one. Otherwise, find a way to convert the new one into a type that allows you to control+f. I am the least computer savvy person when it comes to that type of stuff so idk how to tell you how to do it, but google and find out or ask people who took the last one for their materials

To those looking for a searchable version of the PDF, student1900 posted it above. I made the charts below for pacing, posting here in case anyone would find that helpful. Good luck all.

Piece of cake. Honestly don't even know why they bother giving that exam.

Seriously. I was panicking a little about not studying at all, but it's really a big joke.

If only the actual bar exam was that easy :/

I thought it was confusingly worded but pointless. Let's make a test where we see who can read the fastest and utilize control+find the best? What's the point

That was terrible. It took 3 hours out of bar study. I'm so thankful it's over and now I'm trying to dump most of what I learned so that I never confuse it with MBE material.

Yeah I agree some of the questions were confusingly worded, which was annoying.

In any event, they should definitely rethink this whole NYLE thing. You don't need to watch the videos or study at all. I'm going to pass, but I don't think I could tell you one substantive NY rule. I was in autopilot mode, just using Control-F and matching up words to the outline without thinking about the law.

When NY switched to the UBE there were a bunch of people who were upset. I wouldn't be surprised if BOLE made up the NYLE in order to appease existing lawyers / powers that be / traditionalists. Time passed, people stopped complaining, and they couldn't be bothered to implement something more than symbolic.

Regarding the NYLE results release date, I understand the website says "generally within 2 weeks of the exam". Does anyone know the approximate turnaround time for past NYLE administrations? I could not find any statistics on this online. Thanks.

I took the NYLE last March 16. We got the results on March 24.

I ctrl+f like 48 out of 50 questions just because I felt like I had enough time to do so. Still finished 40 minutes early. There were maybe 2 or 3 questions that despite finding the relevant section in the outline, I couldn't figure out for whatever reason. One divorce question about jurisdiction I kept being like what..? because the answers didn't seem to line up with the info in the outline. That said, I could have misread. I think that the only really tricky part about the exam is that the questions often ask things in the negative or ask you which thing isn't something so that if you're reading quickly/rushing, you'll screw it up. It felt more like a reading comprehension test. I'm certain next to no one who used the outline and took enough time to carefully read got more than 20 questions wrong. So let's be confident that we passed that and happy that it's over lol.

Also, it appears that in past administrations, scores were released anywhere from 5-12 or so days after the exam. So they'll likely be out pretty quickly. Good luck with whatever else is currently taking over your life!

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
