NY Law Exam

Post by jir92 » Sat May 20, 2017 11:58 pm

For those who passed--

1) How long did you study for before the exam?
2) What did you do to study?

---IF ANYTHING?

1.) didn't outside of the Qs at the end of each video.
2.) just bring the packet they give you in and you'll be fine.

It's no longer a CTRL + F document which makes me slightly nervous

Someone in another thread uploaded an old version that is control f to dropbox. Assuming this isn't an ethical violation you should search for it sorry I can't find it rn.

I'm just gonna re-type the document as a way of studying for it anyway so I'll have a CTRL + F option I suppose

I wouldn't be surprised if the examsoftware prevents control + f (no matter what file you open) while the exam is in process. These are very mean people.

Assuming 1) You can find a way to make the PDF searchable through some conversion software and 2) You can use the PDF in the exam

1. About 15-30 minutes
2. Scrolling through outline so i know where stuff is.

If those assumptions fail.........sucks to suck.

It's a multiple choice open book exam. You have two hours to get 30 questions correct to pass. If you're a halfway decent skimmer, that's plenty of time even if you can't find a searchable PDF. Just use the index or tab it.

I know of people who pulled the PDF up on another computer and control-F'd on that while they answered questions on their primary computer.

It's open book so I can't imagine how that would violate any rules, but doesn't hurt to make sure.

It's annoying that it's a 126 page document. So no one substantively studied actual rules, etc? just relied on CTRL + F?

When you say bring one, you don't mean that you actually have to go somewhere to take the exam, correct? We can just take it from home or where ever?

I read the outline over the course of about 5 days before the exam. So, around 25 pages a night. This was probably unnecessary, but I didn't want to have to take the thing again.

As to the the outline not being searchable, here are three things I would try:

1. Find the uploaded doc in the other thread that someone else mentioned.
2. Convert the doc into a searchable PDF (this might require some tech-savvy because apparently the doc is secured).
3. Print the outline. Then, go to UPS and scan the doc onto a flash drive as a searchable PDF.

Good luck.

If you can get your hands on a PDF searchable outline use that. Or print one out, put it in a binder, get some of those tab dividers, and organize it by section.

Not trying to humblebrag but I didn't even look at the outline until the day before the Feb. exam. I did the practice questions the NYLE puts out - about 22 - and looked at the headings of the different sections of the outline to get an overview.

I was actually at work when I took it. I snuck into a small conference room beforehand and was literally still on a conference call until about 5 minutes into the beginning of the exam. I ctrl-F'd the entire exam and passed.

Hmm and they got away with doing that?
