Kentucky Bar Exam --- July 2017
I'm planning to take the July 2017 bar exam in Kentucky. Would anyone else who is planning to take the same exam like to collaborate?
I don't understand the Kentucky bar exam. What is the deal with the essays - part MEE and part Kentucky? What are the MEE topics and which are Kentucky, and does it matter? Is this difference only in who wrote the questions, but they should be treated as the same by examinees? Should all of the essay questions (regardless of MEE or not) be answered according to general/majority law, and then if Kentucky is different it should be noted?
I have passed in another state, so I don't think I need to take the MBE, so that's nice, but I have learned nearly nothing about administrative law, family law (that's what domestic relations is, right?), and conflict of laws, so that's not nice.
Am I supposed to write about federal AND Kentucky civil procedure, federal AND Kentucky criminal law/procedure, etc.? Is it general family law or KENTUCKY family law?
Geez - I'm glad this exam is 6+ months away.

How do you think it went?
I felt like both mornings were good. Both afternoons were disasters.
I hope you did well enough to feel ok about it for 2 months!

I felt like the essays were doable. The MBE was horrible. I did 1750ish MBE questions with Themis and I felt like a lot I was told to focus on WASN'T on the MBE and that it was my first time seeing some things. Maybe those were the 25 experimental. Who knows. I know during lunch on the day of the MBE, I went to my car and the guy parked next to me was bawling into his hands. Like sobbing.

I'm just kidding. I was that neurotic guy going through my notes on the iPad.
I concur with your assessment completely. I spent that last week totally focused on the essays because I thought I was in trouble there. And then on the day off, the morning essays were on the edge of being "easy". By that I mean I wasn't caught off guard by any of them, and in the absence of a time constraint, I could have written on those topics for days.
The afternoon essays were a bit more stout but I think that is because I made a bad bet on Conflicts not being tested and I felt like the Wills questions was rough. But either way, I felt like Day 1 was manageable.
The MBE, which I thought was my strong point, was a monster though. The morning was rough. The afternoon was brutal. Maybe all the experimental questions were on the second half?
I don't know. If I had to bet, I'd say I'm going back in February to take the MBE again, which will be much more manageable if I'm not also studying for the essays. But it's disappointing because I did roughly 2000 Qs for MBE prep. I did Kaplan and then I bought Barbri practice tests online. And I felt like those were totally different.
If I have to go for round 2 with the MBE, I'm thinking I'll do Adaptibar.
Best of luck!

If they were on pace with last year, the results would be out today. Unfortunately, it looks like we're in for another 10 days of waiting.

I was told that bar results were released a week earlier than the date applicants were told to expect them by last year. Not sure if that means we will get them by this coming Friday or not.

All applicants received an email this morning instructing them to check their name in regards to how it would appear on their license. If they plan on releasing them early on this coming Friday it would give applicants 48 hours to respond. My gut says we can expect results the day after tomorrow.

BTW... I feel like all correspondences from the KYOBA should be prefaced with NOT YOUR EXAM RESULTS until those are released. I was so excited and so disappointed when I saw that email.

I don't know why, but this morning I woke up thinking "Nope". My gut is now strangely telling me that this is going the full 9+ weeks and we still have a week to go.
I hope my gut is wrong.

I'm thinking the same thing. Apparently last year they were up before 10:00.dans1006 wrote:Mike13w wrote:All applicants received an email this morning instructing them to check their name in regards to how it would appear on their license. Last year the July results posted on the 20th! But I guess that was the plan all along. The fact that it was so much sooner than our date made me think we might get earlier results too, but maybe they had more graders last year and so they knew they'd be faster. I don't know.Mike13w wrote:I'm thinking the same thing. I’m sick nervous. I have a job already and I’m taking tomorrow off because with either good or bad news, I won’t be able to focus on work.

I am told the results will be posted “sometime on the afternoon of September 29” by seat number. Then we will be emailed our results. Then the actual pass list with the names will be out.dans1006 wrote:Any idea on when during the day they usually post the list?Rhiannon17 wrote:I’m sick nervous. Also, my friends and some colleagues who have taken it in the past 5 years have told me they found out after lunch. Who knows. I just want to know either way at this point.

One of the Supreme Court clerks told me it would be at 1:00pm. Good luck to everyone. I'm terribly nervous.

Passed.
Thanks to all the contributors to this forum who helped me while I lurked around the past few years. Never been so relieved.

I copied and pasted all the names on the takers list and all the numbers listed on passers list and by my unofficial calculations (which may be skewed by the few people who didn't show up) the overall pass rate should be right at 65% this year.

Not yet, just ID numbers. I think they wait a couple days to put the names out.Pure Applesauce wrote:Is there an actual list of names out?
