I dont think so. Didnt see anything about that on the application checklist. I signed some waiver for my school that allows them to release any information they request, however.

Okay, so to the other poster self-studying, what materials will you be using? I'm trying to decide on all the materials I need now. From what I understand, Nevada weights the essays and MBE at a 2:1 ratio.

I think im going to go with this and see how it works out initially: http://baroutlines.com/nevada-bar-exam/

then maybe getting access to some MBE question bank and trying to get my hands on that CMR to double check it with the material provided by baroutlines.com

Does Nevada have a lot of state distinctions? the materials I got dont seem to make note of state v federal/mbe very much in the nevada outlines. I have separate outlines for both and I assume I can go through them and note them myself but was just wondering if anybody had some sort of check list?

sucks that a strong MBE doesnt seem like an auto pass in this state.

so going through some of the old essay questions, it seems like Nevada tests the MBE (with state distinctions) subjects like property, contract, evidence, etc and then only a few subjects that arent covered by the mbe like ethics and family law.

anybody go through all of them yet and get a good gist of what is actually tested?

i'm getting a little nervous going into July. A combination of not working hard enough up until now, the state's low pass rate, the mandatory minimum essay score, and the MBE only being a third of the test is making me really nervous.

no need to worry man. the MBE may only be worth a 1/3rd of the exam but the mbe subjects are tested throughout the essays with state distinctions. I looked at the essays and pretty much every year had property, evidence, crim, contract, etc

also pass rates are generally not a good thing to look out because they dont take into account a number of factors that bring it down that dont apply to the majority of test takers. school specific ones are better to look at.

Are you guys getting any deficiency notices? I got one for transcripts because my school didnt confer a degree until the end of june. just trying to make sure they would let us know if anything was missing beyond that.

there is literally just too much stuff to remember. thankfully we know that ethics will be an essay question and then 4 of them will be MBE subjects. really only have to guess on what 2 of them will be.

True. Nevada really seems to like crossover essays though like say contracts/commercial paper.

Yeah, I got one just before they sent the "Notice to appear" email because I didn't explain a speeding ticket which was on my driving record. Sent in the info and haven't gotten another deficiency notice.

Yeah, I got a deficiency letter that said no items missing. I also got an email from C & F about a few outstanding parking tickets...(oh, you actually have to pay those?)

Yeah, I just think it's so much harder to prepare for the essays. It's way more challenging to be able to recite an accurate rule statement versus being familiar enough with the concept to recognize the issue when it appears on a multiple choice test. I'm definitely not ready yet...I've been doing well on MBE practice questions, but haven't done a lot of practice with the essays. It's time to get started on that I'd imagine.

Yeah got an email today saying everything was in so good to go.

I'm really hoping for essays to only be the easy areas like landlord tenant, formation of K, etc. that would be nice.

So, as I understand it, to pass the NV bar we must have a weighted total score of 75? And have received a minimum score of 75 on at least 3 of the essays? Is that right? If so, what exactly does that mean? I'm pretty confused how everything would be calculated (like how one MBE score translates versus another and what essays are graded out of anyways...how hard is it to get a minimum 75?) Anybody know?

Yeah, i've been trying to figure that out. If the model answers the bar released are examples of 75+, then it shouldnt really be a big deal to get a 75 on 3 of the essays though.

this link: http://www.thefacultylounge.org/2013/04 ... culty.html says you need a cut score of 140, whatever that means.

I believe the essays are graded out of 100.

I'm taking Barbri and I asked this question. Here are the responses I got:

"As far as scoring on the essay is concerned, you need to score a minimum of 75 on at least 3 of the written essays. However, in addition, you need an overall AVERAGE score from all your essays, the MBE, and the MPT of 75 or higher to pass. The MBE is weighted as 1/3, and the essays are weighted 2/3. The scores are combined to determine if an overall passing total scaled score of 75 was achieved."

"The scaled score to pass the MBE is approximately 143 on MBE (multistate bar exam), in combination 75 average on written. The raw score is correct questions correct on MBE, out of 200 questions. However, to achieve a scaled score, the bar examiners compare your raw score with others taking the exam. Accordingly, a scaled score will differ each time, but roughly, on the MBE you want to get raw score of 126-128 (depending on performance of the group). Written portion 2/3, MBE 1/3. However, keep in mind that the MBE is 1/3 of your total Bar Exam score, so you don’t have to get scaled 143 on MBE if you do well on the essays."

"Note that on the MBE, a 143 [raw] is 75%. That might help you better understand the overall score required"

Not sure if any of this helpful or stuff you already knew.
