I called the department store that, according to Experian, I owe $430, trying to make a payment. They said that my account balance is only $179, and that a recent payment was made for $251, though she said she had trouble identifying the source of that payment. I have not made a payment on the debt for 120 days, and my credit report online does not reflect that the debt is just $179. Does this mean that the $251 was just charged off to collections, and that I now owe a collections agency $251? I ended up making a $50 payment on the $179 balance and setting up recurrent payments to the department store.
