Yes, I know but how fast, on average, does a law student read? I'm asking more out of sheer curiosity and am not looking to hit a certain WPM because other students read at a given rate.Nebby wrote:Whatever speed allows you to comprehend and retain the substance of what is being read.j.a.p.1440 wrote:How fast should a law student be able to read? You don't max out on wpm?Nebby wrote:No one keeps these statsj.a.p.1440 wrote:Yes, I know but how fast, on average, does a law student read? Some speed readers do. I'm not saying that I plan on speed reading in law school when I start 1L this fall, I plan on taking my time. I ask out of sheer curiosity.Nebby wrote:No one keeps these statsj.a.p.1440 wrote:Yes, I know but how fast, on average, does a law student read? I can go about 500-600 when I am fresh and really into what I'm reading. I'd say comprehension is at 80% though. So, I guess it's not the most ideal. I'm curious is any 3Ls can get up to that rate after lots of exposure to legal text. If we have to read roughly 300 pages per night, I'd hope as time goes on the reading gets easier.Clyde Frog wrote:You don't max out on wpm?Nebby wrote:No one keeps these statsj.a.p.1440 wrote:Yes, I know but how fast, on average, does a law student read? That's a sincere question. My law school told me that there would be up 500 pages per night, but usually about 300. Is this some 0L scare tactic or is my school just that effing evil?ithrowds wrote:Can't tell if trolling or whatj.a.p.1440 wrote:Is that not accurate?

50-60 probably. Still takes a while while you're still learning how to read casesj.a.p.1440 wrote:How much did you have on average?BlendedUnicorn wrote:It is notj.a.p.1440 wrote:Is that not accurate?BlendedUnicorn wrote:

What the..? Why would they tell 300-500? 50-60 seem like nothing.ughbugchugplug wrote:50-60 probably. It's just a completely different type of reading than you're thinking of. This is a bit of an extreme example, but look through this case and flag all the terms you're not familiar with. Then, imagine there's a chance you'll get grilled on very fine points in front of 100 people the next day. For a more modern example, go through the same exercise with this (skip the syllabus).j.a.p.1440 wrote:What the..?
