Post by theventriloquist » Tue Jun 20, 2017 8:10 pm

SUPPOSE IF SOMEONE GETS A GOOD LSAT SCORE (SAY 177) WITH LITTLE STUDY DOES THAT MEAN THHAT HE IS VERY LIKELY TO DO WELL IN LAW SCHOOL?

SUPPOSE HE GOT MOSTLY ALL A'S IN COLLEGE BUT GOT LOW GRADES ON SCIENCE COURSES.

If you post in all caps again you're going to be banned.

Performance in law school is very hard to predict. If you get a very high LSAT and you have a high GPA you will be in law school with other people with similarly excellent qualifications, and you will be graded on a curve. So you won't have any way of knowing how you'll compare to others with mostly As and high LSATs.

You're best off getting into the best school you can, where you will have good opportunities no matter what your place in class, than worrying about this stuff that you can't ever know and can't ever control. Assume you won't do better in law school than your school's average student.

Pulled directly from LSAC's website:

"The correlation between LSAT scores and first-year law school grades varies from one law school to another (as does the correlation between GPA and first-year law school grades). During 2016, validity studies were conducted for 168 law schools. Correlations between LSAT scores and first-year law school grades ranged from .12 to .61 (median is .41). The correlations between UGPA and first-year law school grades ranged from .02 to .50 (median is .27). However, correlations between LSAT scores combined with undergraduate grade-point averages and first-year law school grades ranged from .26 to .68 (median is .50)."

See the bolded, it's a fairly weak correlation

Oh ok thanks. I wonder what makes someone do well in law school? It must be natural (genetic) intelligence.
