J.D. in 6 Years --> Eligible for NY Bar?

I took time off law school and will be completing my JD within 6 years of first enrolling. NY Bar eligibility requires completing a JD within 5 years of enrolling.

My question is whether anyone has experience petitioning for eligibility for the NY bar if they don't meet the requirements on their face? Or is my dream of practicing law in NY essentially dead?
