Beyond the 1L title, was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for 2L study guides.

Taking Evidence, Biz Orgs, Fed Tax, and Legal Profession next Semester, thinking about buying books now when they may be cheaper from 2/3L's unloading them.

About buying casebooks - do you think it's better to buy used textbooks that are marked up/highlighted, especially if the former owner got an A, or better to get a clean copy? In undergrad I almost always bought used books because they're cheaper, but also tried hard to get clean copies because studying was easier with them when the only markings were mine.

But maybe it's different for casebooks? I know a lot of 1L-3Ls here TLS say they don't agonize over briefing cases. Maybe it's better to start out with marked up casebooks - ?

Overall I'd just go with what's cheaper. Sometimes the highlighting in my used casebooks were helpful for cold calls. I guess it can also be helpful when reading the cases to just make sure you're not missing something important. I would in no way rely on the highlighting though.

Maybe this is just me but I HATE used books when they have highlighting in them. I always find myself distracted as I critique the previous owner's highlights ("mmm...that wasn't important...what an idiot for highlighting that!")

But I still buy 'em used cause I'm cheap :(

Do I need to get the whole LEEWS set or will just the Primer do? Do the CDs make that much of a difference?

same question... the primer is only $45 but the whole set runs from $150 to $300 on Amazon.

From what I understand the primer is essentially useless without the CDs. It is intentionally out of order and is more of a workbook to complement the course which is on the Cds.

Do people typically keep their 1L textbooks and supplements (as 2L-3L references and for the bar exam), or do most sell them back as soon as they're done with 1L?

Most seem to get rid of the textbook but keep the supplement for review. If you buy everything new at the bookstore you will pay $$$$. Check the pricing at the online sites for used ones and have it shipped to you. Check Craigslist also.

I have another LEEWS question. Does it matter what year/edition I get? I'm assuming (maybe wrongly) that it doesn't change that much because it just addresses how to organize exams/writing.

does anyone have a link to this super popular Chemerinsky con law E&E?? (the most recent edition) I can't seem to find it anywhere!

Also, is this the most recent Glannon torts E&E http://www.amazon.com/Law-Torts-Example ... 0735588740?

and finally, which civil procedure E&E is the most useful? The Glannon Guide to Civil Procedure: Learning Civil Procedure Through Multiple-Choice Questions and Analysis http://www.amazon.com/Glannon-Guide-Civ ... 682&sr=1-2
or http://www.amazon.com/Examples-Explanat ... 752&sr=1-1 or both?

thanks a ton and forgive my ignorance!

I don't think Chemerinsky has a con law E&E, just a Principles & Policies book.

my civ pro professor is using the civil procedure: a modern approach casebook by marcus.

should i get the civ pro E&E by glannon (http://www.amazon.com/Examples-Explanat ... pd_sim_b_1) OR the gilbert supplement by marcus (http://www.amazon.com/Gilbert-Law-Summa ... ef=lh_ni_t); i've heard better things about the E&E but the gilbert is written by the same author of my casebook?

secondly, which of these horn books on civ pro do you guys recommend: the one authored by friedenthal (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/031415 ... PDKIKX0DER) OR by freer (http://www.amazon.com/Civil-Procedure-2 ... 0735578303)

thanks for the feedback!

Is it a bad idea to get a hornbook not written by your casebook's author? I have the Dawson's Contracts casebook and despite hearing good things about the Calamari and Perillo hornbook I'm not sure if it would be kosher.
