Any thoughts or tips on Life of the Law/orientation week?
Would you recommend supplements? If so any specifics?
Any idea how hard it is to land Chicago or BigGov? Top 20%?
Any London or other foreign offices at OCI?
Is a 1L SA position even worth looking for?
Any words of wisdom on first year profs?

Thanks so much for taking questions, sorry for the rapid fire!
Have as much as fun possible during orientation. Seriously. I learned some mildly useful stuff from class, but more importantly, I made friends outside my section. Go to everything you can.

I used E&E's primarily. I only really used them around finals time to help drill areas that I was having problems with. Plus it made me feel more productive than just staring at my outline some more.

I have no idea about Chicago, but BigGov is hard anywhere.
Same with London stuff

Definitely look for a 1L SA. I have quite a few friends who got them in Birmingham and Nashville. Biggest advice is the second finals are over, drink, and then start job searching. I waited around and missed some sweet opportunities.

Let me know when you get your schedule. I was in a different section from letsdoit so if you have different profs, I might be able to help. I liked all but one of my first year profs and really loved 4 of them.

TITCR. After first semester I learned that making your own outline was of limited utility. Second semester (which was the most academically successful for me) I just took VBA outlines/outlines from my mentor and vetted them against my own notes to make sure things weren't missing.

Random question: Any good fishing/ public hunting land around Nashville that y'all know of? Trying to decide what to bring up there this fall.

No clue about hunting, but you can fish at Percy Priest or Old Hickory. It's better w a boat though, and it's a hike.

Great, thanks. What about golf? I've played McCabe and Percy Warner... any good hidden public courses?

Just went fishing at marrowbone lake this past Sunday...its only 20-30 mins away. Not sure about hunting, but you can go clay shooting at a gun club right outside the city.

Yes, Freshfields is coming to OCI this year and lists a number of their offices, including London.
Mxpalmer wrote:For anyone..

Definitely. I know a number of people who are doing 1L SA positions at firms in a variety of cities, Nashville, Birmingham, Chattanooga, Atlanta, DC, Palo Alto to name a few. Nashville and Birmingham probably have the highest number but there are certainly other options out there.

You won't get to pick your profs. Come back when you've been assigned to a section and know which professors you have and we can chime in on our experiences. While my opinions varied on the classes, I liked all of my 1L profs.

get on law review. we had our own outline bank and the outlines were light years above the shitty ones on VBA

This is an incredibly helpful response. Added a lot to the thread for 1L questions.

The good news is that if you have a friend on law review who isn't a dick, the law review outlines are easy to get a hold of.

yeah, its fine. most students live in west end or by the school (midtown) but a few live in the gulch, green hills, etc.

Speaking of, I used to work at Vanderbilt Law and own a luxury condo less than 5 minutes walk from it. Here are the details, feel free to contact me if you are interested in buying, lease to buy, or renting. Note that you won't have to pay for on-campus parking either.
