What is your favorite bar in Nashville. You will be judges on the response.

Losers > Tin Roof unless for some reason I want to talk to college chicks. Also the bands are better than Tin Roof. Also less tourists than PP.

Eh, I like the set up of Tin Roof much more. Losers always feels cramped in a creepy way. Plus Tin Roof has that new room now so it's not so crowded.rad lulz wrote:Creditedletsdoit wrote:Am I loaded? Seconded. I think I grew out of PP after fall semester though. And I haven't been to Tin Roof since they added a room, but I always feel like I'm packed into a can of sardines.akili wrote: When it's nice outside, I say Rebar.

Re: Vandy 2L Taking Question
I know I posted a few question in the "choosing a law school" subforum but here are a few more:
Whats the COL/month or year living in Nashville?
From anecdotal evidence, how did the most recent OCI compare to prior years?
Admissions questions:
Anyone write targeted LOR or PS? and by targeted PS I mean like super Vandy-centric. Also, is there a Why X essay one can write for Vandy?

Re: Vandy 2L Taking Question
COL is decent, not horrible but not great. I live with a roommate about 1.5 miles from the school and pay around $650 a month (including utilities and cable). Closer to the school it can get up to around $1000 or more a month.MillerTheThriller wrote:I know I posted a few question in the "choosing a law school" subforum but here are a few more:

I'll let radlulz handle the OCI question, but from my understanding OCI is similar this year to last year. A little under 100 firms (most were "unique employers" such as 1 Bryan Cave schedule interviewing for 14 offices) but a few offices had individual scheduled (like Sutherland had a separate DC and ATL schedule).
Its my understanding you can submit a "Why X School" essay with any application packet.

I did a Why Vandy and I think it helped me get in when most people with similar numbers were waitlisted.

Re: Vandy 2L Taking Question
I've seen this years list. About as many firms as last year. This is an increase over OCI 2010.MillerTheThriller wrote: From anecdotal evidence, how did the most recent OCI compare to prior years?
However, some caveats:
1) These firms may be looking to hire more or fewer people. This would not be necessarily reflected in the number of firms present at OCI.
2) Only about 25% of people get jobs from OCI, whereas about 55% of my class I'd say has some sort of SA position. Kids go throughout the country, largely off their own applications, and some midsize firms don't come to OCI (probably due to cost and distance), but love to talk to Vandy students. So the strength of OCI itself isn't a totally determinative factor.

Re: Vandy 2L Taking Question
LSN is the best predictor of that. I will say, I took the LSAT twice and rather than average my scores, it appeared that Vandy weighted my most recent (and higher) one more heavily.MillerTheThriller wrote:So I am a 3.0gpa splitter and retaking my lsat (167 June '12)

Re: Vandy 2L Taking Question
For anyone..
Any thoughts or tips on Life of the Law/orientation week?
Would you recommend supplements? If so any specifics?
Any idea how hard it is to land Chicago or BigGov? Top 20%?
Any London or other foreign offices at OCI?
Is a 1L SA position even worth looking for?
Any words of wisdom on first year profs?
Thanks so much for taking questions, sorry for the rapid fire!

Depends on your prof, and depends on if they help you learn. For specifics, depends on your prof.Mxpalmer wrote:Would you recommend supplements? If so any specifics?
Bigfed is basically nonexistent due to hiring freezes/budget cuts. Don't know much about Chi personally.Mxpalmer wrote:Any idea how hard it is to land Chicago or BigGov? Top 20%?
Not that I can recall. This chick's working for Freshfields in Frankfurt though. http://law.vanderbilt.edu/features/marg ... index.aspxMxpalmer wrote:Any London or other foreign offices at OCI?
If you want to work in London, you're gonna want preexisting ties to London and be able to articulate an interest in capital markets (or maybe international arbitration) with specificity and credibility. I'd worry about that more than whether London firms come to OCI or not.
Why would you not apply for a job you want? Chances are low though unless you are patent bar eligible, have sky high grades, or have ties to a place that does 1L SA hiring (e.g. Birmingham, AL).Mxpalmer wrote:Is a 1L SA position even worth looking for?

Truth be told, i hardly used supplements and didn't hurt for it. I did use chereminsky for con law (blumstein) and did a couple of future interest problems out of the e&e for property (ruhl).
BigGov is damn near impossible...period. The USFG is on a major hiring freeze, so an A3 clerkship is a prereq for many positions. Chicago generally wants ties, but if you have them, I'd imagine top 20% could get you to at least some firms there. A decent amount of Chicago firms come through OCI.
A couple of firms interview for their foreign offices.
Yes, definitely. I had 2 callbacks for very legit (market paying) firms in my home market this past December. I didn't get the positions, but I was obviously in the running and my grades were good but not astronomical. I also had 2 screeners at 1L OCI.
It depends on the prof-PM me once you know your schedule.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
