Thought I'd post questions here also

hey thanks for answering questions!

how do you like Tuscaloosa so far?

Does the class have more of a competitive or laid back feel? How diverse is the law school?

Do most of your classmates have jobs lined up for the summer?

Have any idea what the class rank cutoffs are for most firms in Alabama?

Are you worried about Lacy being out for the spring? How is AL shaping up for a repeat? Is this going to be a repeat of 2010 since you lost so many starters?

Come on. No one goes to AL for an education - they go for football.

I will say that Lacy is no Trent- but we will be fine on offense. I am more worried about replacing Hightower, Dre K, etc.

Have you noticed tuition increases since you started or have any idea what to expect as far as tuition rates go for next year?

Yeah, there have been very significant tuition increases over the last 2 years. A 3L told me that since she has been there, in-state tuition has increased by almost $2,000 per semester.

Would you say that Alabama's small class size makes the competition between students and the curve more intense compared to a school with a larger student body?

IE less A's given out, harder to make an A, etc.

Anyone have any thoughts on the Links Apartments?

The unlimited golf is very appealing. Doubt I would have a ton of time to play but it would be a great stress reliever

Regarding the Links Apartments... I'm a UA undergrad, and just wanted to let y'all know that the links doesn't have the best reputation. It was nice at first, but has quickly been going downhill. There have been two shootings there recently.

If you have a mybama account, you can pay through that online. Click on Student Tab, then Student Services, Student Receivables, and finally Submit Law School Deposit.

If not, just mail them a check. The address they gave on the Admitted Students check list was:

University of Alabama School of Law
Box 870382
Tuscaloosa, AL 35487-0382

Of the out-of-state students you know, what percentage are able to make it over to Atlanta? What seems to be the cut off for class rank of people that are able to get hired in Atlanta? Do firms from Atlanta/Nashville/Houston come to Alabama for OCI at all, or is it more up to law students who want those markets to go out and get them themselves?

Thanks for your help.

If you are talking about the big firms in Atlanta (Alston Byrd, King & Spalding), you would really need to be in the top 5% to get a job there. OCI is dominated by Alabama firms, you don't really see anyone from other big Southeast cities (certainly not Houston). I am not trying to depress anyone, I just want you to know that landing a job outside of Alabama will be difficult, but certainly not impossible.

How would Alabama be for an out of state student? Is it super good ol' boy, or is going to the school considered good enough?

Great question. I assume you are asking whether the law firms discriminate against out of state students, not whether they are looked down upon in the law school. The large law firms in Birmingham hire out-of-state students every year, so I don't think there is any problem there. Likewise, because Huntsville has such a large influx of engineers from other states, there is no problem with law firms there. However, firms in Montgomery and Mobile probe a little stronger into whether you are actually interested in practicing there for your career. I hope this helps.

Thank you, that does help! I can honestly say that I love the South and could see myself putting down my "ties" in Alabama. I've been there many times and like it a lot. I'd just hate to go a school like Bama and then get shot-down for being a GD Yankee (grew up in Cincinnati but also lived in Tennessee)

What are your thoughts on Alabama's claim that no one in the class of 2010 had a short term job post graduation? Is this in line with what you have heard/experienced?

I ask because I'm curious, as almost no other law school has 0 people in short term jobs (even Yale has 3 in short term jobs).

How can you expect anyone not in the administration or career services to answer this question, let alone a 2L who certainly wasn't enrolled in the school with and probably didn't even know anyone in the class of 2010?

Seriously what's the game here? You wait until he doesn't answer and give some rant about law school employment transparency, or you wait until he does answer unsatisfactorily, which is guaranteed, and then still give some rant about law school employment transparency?

I just really can't understand the point of or the motive behind asking a student at any school a question like this...

What is the culture like at Alabama? What does everyone do for fun, what are the students like, etc.?

All I did was ask the OP if Alabama's claims were in line with what the OP has heard/experienced.

You're at Alabama too, no? Is it in line with what you have heard/experienced?
