********************VISITING DAY UPDATE********************
VISITING DAY WEBSITE: http://www.law.emory.edu/index.php?id=6830
VISITING DAY PROGRAM: http://www.law.emory.edu/fileadmin/NEWW ... ingles.pdf
1. So it seems that Emory has ran out of hotel rooms for students in the Emory Conference Center Hotel (this is just speculation) but according to the visiting day website, people are now only able to get rooms in Courtyard by Marriott Atlanta. I was luckily able to get the room at ECCH which is better IMO because I hear that the activity thing that they have planned on Friday Night is walking distance away from the ECCH Hotel. I am not sure how far Courtyards is from the thing. ECCH is a 4 star hotel and I'm not sure how many stars Marriott is.
2. Visiting day's schedule is up and can be seen here: http://www.law.emory.edu/fileadmin/NEWW ... hedule.pdf
3. Apparently we have cases to read for the Law School 101 part of the visiting day event. This is from the visiting day website:

4. Apparently after I registered for visiting day, the thing said that the dress code was: comfortable. Does anybody have a clue what that means? What will you all be wearing? And for those of you who are going to the cookoff on Friday Night, what will you wear to that? On the top of the visiting day schedule, it says that the dress is casual for all events. Is a dress shirt and jeans okay?Visiting Day Law School 101 Cases

Emory should have included it in your acceptance. call them. I believe that if it isn't in your acceptance, you weren't awarded one.gatorkristen wrote:Did anybody receive their financial aid packages?

Yes. You're expecting too much. How close to campus do you want/need to be? Will you have a car or no?itachiuchiha wrote:looking for something close to campus 1/1 utilities and water included for under 600$.

I second what Katy said. Living close to Emory will cost more and you will NEED roommates if you want to be close & be cheap. You might find something in a less safe neighborhood for close to that price, but you would still not be that close to the school.KatyMarie wrote:Yes. You're expecting too much. I think a more reasonable estimate would be between $700-$900 with roommates or $1000+ without. Also depends on apts or houses.

Yep I agree. That's spot-on what you're looking at for that area of town. That said, it's a nice area with lower crime rates and they keep it up, so to me it'd be worth it. You can definitely live cheaper elsewhere, but you'll probably need to get real comfortable with the idea of roommates if you can only pay 600/month, or live way out in the suburbs and commute into school.wsparker wrote:I second what Katy said. You can live in Atlanta on almost any budget depending on how flexible you are with multiple roommates, location, living with higher crime rates etc. Hell, I knew a guy who was paying 40/month to sleep in a converted storage unit on the West End (not that I recommend that plan). If you (or anyone) has any particular questions about different neighborhoods or generally living in ATL, PM I'll be happy to help you out.

If any current/prospective students out there need or know of anyone that needs a roommate, throw me a bone. I'd rather not goto Briarcliff and post up in a big house.

is briarcliff bad? I haven't heard anything negative about them yet. I also haven't been able to get to atlanta to look at the campus or a place to live yet, so I don't really know of anyplace to go look.Kanye West wrote:If any current/prospective students out there need or know of anyone that needs a roommate, throw me a bone. wsparker wrote:I remember post briarcliff, emory pointe, & clairmont reserve. I have lived in a post properties and liked the management. I believe post is right next to whole food & starbucks and very close to campus. From my knowledge of that particular area, it seems safe. Emory Pointe seems like it would be loud since there are tons of restaurants & shops below and I think it is the most expensive, but it also very close and safe. I don't anything about clairmont.
thanks for the advice. post briarcliff looks nice and having whole foods right there is a good perk.

I think I'm going to rent a house and divide the rooms. I lived in an apartment throughout my undergrad, and I'm ready for a bit more freedom. I'm also bringing my small dog with me, so I think a house would be better and less expensive.

Wow, yeah, I'm definitely only looking at 2 or 3 bedroom houses. I can handle two other people (I had that many in my other apartments, with less room than a house), but I couldn't imagine 6 roommates! Honestly though, the apartments in the area are just too expensive for me. I'd really like to stay under $500 plus utilities.pauly_biegler wrote:LawGirl7 wrote:I think I'm going to rent a house and divide the rooms. Me too! See you in August. Does anyone know when we find out our sections, classes, textbooks, etc.? I'm assuming we find out before orientation week.
