But there is a clear line when a higher ranked school is better from an employment standpoint, take NYU v. USC for example. So who cares that one is #6 and the other is #17 or wherever USC is these days. Even if a prospective student chose because of rank, he made the right decision. Furthermore, in most cases, rank relates to positive employment outcomes, so there are worse ways to choose which school to attend.
Where it becomes of less value is when the schools are in the same peer group, i.e. vandy/ucla/ut. Then it becomes a question of where you want to practice and which school has an atmosphere that you prefer.
HTH
He is trying to sugget vandy/UCLA/UT >>> USC.. It's actually Vandy/UCLA/UT/USC.. Peer schools. One bad year doesnt change anything. Just two years ago USC had the best numbers by far ahead of all three them.
I would be willing to bet my right nut (my more favorite of the two) that capt considers USC to be virtually the same school as ucla. Bros, go to whichever one is cheaper.

I made the first seat deposit! Unless I get more money from another institution, I will be matriculating here next year. I'm thinking of doing campus housing the first year to avoid the commute. Is Terrace the only option for law students?

Ditto Kiddo. Unless I get big money from any of my 3 outstanding apps (which I'm pretty sure it's safe to assume won't occur...) I will be making the move to LA this summer.
Does anyone see a downside to depositing today to grab the extra 2k? It's remnicense to an infomercial's "call in the next 5 minutes and we'll throw in another magic bullet!!! (just pay shipping and handling)" is making me nervous haha... But cost benefit analysis would argue it's a good move.

Re: USC GOULD CLASS OF 2017
Haha, yeah that was enough to get me to do it. I figure that I'll only lose the $500-1000 in deposit(s) if I get an additional $15-$30,000 from another school, so it can't really hurt. I am fine going to USC at its current cost (which, even with a very large scholarship, is somewhat absurd), so I'm fine with my outcomes.ChicagoDawg wrote:Ditto Kiddo. Congratulations to everyone who has deposited, USC is a great school (did undergrad here).
As far as I have seen, Terrace is the only USC-owned housing with space specifically for law students.

Yep that's correct. Three stories, two of which are for first-year law students, the other for other grad students. I drove to USC today and checked Terrace out. A first-year law student offered to give me a tour of his place. Not too shabby. You have a roommate, but get your own room, if that makes sense. About a 20 minute walk to the law school and a 6 or 7 minute bike ride from there.Yea All Right wrote:Congratulations to everyone who has deposited, USC is a great school (did undergrad here).

Haven't deposited yet, though. Still need to weigh the finances.

This FB group was created by the admit over a month ago. Like Yea All Right said, the newsletter contained this link, kind of like an official sponsor I suppose. This is discussed on the FB page as well.

I don't blame you. USC is insanely expensive--I am coming up with a projected $177k tuition over 3 years at sticker. When I put it that way, I realize that I don't even have a 75% scholarship :(.Niners4Life wrote:I'll be there and at the event on the 17th. Haven't deposited yet though. Well it's still almost 75% closer to paying no tuition than someone paying sticker, which there will be many of. Perspective.n1o2c3a4c5h6e7t wrote:When I put it that way, I realize that I don't even have a 75% scholarship .

True, but that is still pretty crazy. USC got crushed in the recent ABA reports it looks like. What is the deal behind the falling employment/biglaw/fedclerk numbers? It's especially strange given that peer schools have been doing much better recently.

Bigger class size and didn't hire enough of its own.. that's basically it. California is too crowded.n1o2c3a4c5h6e7t wrote:USC got crushed in the recent ABA reports it looks like. Emory hired a quarter of its grads and their big firm hiring is bad and zero clerks and they're ranked ahead of USC? LoL

Texas would be a good school if you are from Texas but if you got more money from USC, USC is the better place now that apps have have collapsed and USC will graduate 15-20% less JDs. The employment difference is minimal. Go back look at the big law placement last couple of years USC is usually ahead of texas by quite a bit.
