^^This. Everything you just wrote makes me want to pick the Chicago Ruby. But at the same time I think its going to come down to ASWs for me. If I don't see myself being happy at Chicago I will go with Harvard/Stanford. I really hope I love Chicago when I visit though, because there's nothing I'd like more than to take the money with no regrets.flippacious wrote:I agree. Having taken a few years off between UG and law school, I am pretty conscious of the debt. First off, I'm older, and when I graduate I want to start putting away money for a house, kids, life, etc. The Ruby opens up the opportunity to do that immediately, instead of putting my life on hold for a while. I think there's a huge value in that. There's also the fact that, for the past three years, I have been very conscious of my spending habits as I tried to save as much as possible to go toward law school. I imagine having crazy loans would hang over me in a similar way. I'm looking forward to being able to relax a bit. Thirdly, I'm going for biglaw, but if I end up absolutely hating it, the Ruby gives me the freedom to try to change jobs and not have to suck it up for the sake of loan payments. I like that.Come on Down wrote:There are several threads about this that one can read through. IMO its crazy to pass up that much money but everyone needs to make the decision for themselves. I would be interested to see how the discussion breaks down among people with differing levels of work experience. I know that, personally, 150K (or more) of debt means a lot more to me now than it did just a few years ago when I finished undergrad.Gryffindor wrote:Is anyone else having a hard time deciding between Harvard, or Yale, or Stanford (or a combo) and the Ruby? I'm debating starting a discussion on the topic.
I have only been admitted to HLS, but I don't think I'd take Yale or Stanford over the Ruby either.
So Chicago...please email that form I can sign so I can make sure you won't take the Ruby away from me, and I can withdraw from everywhere else!!

Yes. I think it's linked in the admitted students section of the website. Otherwise, check the admittance email again.Gryffindor wrote:Is there a fb group for the admitted students yet?

I just want to know when we'll hear decisions on these apps. I'm sure they will wait until after the seat deposit deadline, which sucks because I'm still deciding where to go. If I got into Doctoroff I'd immediately withdraw all of my other apps.lastsamurai wrote:Sent my app in...seems like a pretty awesome and unique program!berndie90 wrote:Has anyone applied to the Doctoroff program yet? Got a Doctoroff interview invite this morning via email. Can't be a bad sign I suppose, although I'm wondering if they interview everyone that applies.

Do yall have business experience? I have zero and am not sure if it would be a waste of time or not to apply.

I don't have any, nor do I have an economics background. Definitely a concern I plan to address at ASW.wsparker wrote:Do yall have business experience? I have zero and am not sure if it would be a waste of time or not to apply.

It's also worth noting that this deadline is only 2 days after ASW. If you want to have more time to consider your options after having visiting campus in person, you probably want to register for the "Day in the Life" program that is occurring at the end of this month, or arrange a visit on your own sometime in March. Just my $.02.Sourrudedude wrote:worth noting that the deadline for enrolling is april 15 if you want the money.kershka wrote:Heads up to all my fellow Rubies: our official scholarship package has just been emailed.

Are you planning to attend all of the events? I don't know what I'll get out of a half day of diversity discussion given my lack of any qualities that can be considered "diverse," but I'm hesitant to skip any of the festivities. What if something super cool happens Thursday morning? What about Wednesday night? There's probably a lot of drinking to accomplish in such a short span.mylifeis24 wrote:Just did!Ricky-Bobby wrote:Has anyone signed up for ASW?

You won't feel out of place at any events labeled diversity even if you are a white male. It's just a marketing thing to emphasize a broad range of student orgs and perspectives. I would come for that evening in your shoes, it was fun for everyone in previous years.

I'm not getting in until 5:45 Thursday night, so I don't have that dilemma. Flying directly from Columbia ASW to Chicago. Should be interesting. I'm going to do everything I want to do and nothing more. Play it by ear.Ricky-Bobby wrote:Are you planning to attend all of the events?
