Re: Texas Class of 2017
I was accepted ~5 weeks ago, so that Facebook post is pretty troubling for me. Then again, if they're doing it by mail, it took almost 2 weeks for the "3 Reasons to Pick Austin" letter to get to me.
If they're not basing it on LSAT/GPA then what are they basing it on?

That's a good question. There isn't enough scholarship info on LSN to make a determination. My ugpa is def on the lower side, so I would blame that on my lower scholarship amount. But then maybe they are holding my "experience" against me. They may not want to invest so much in someone who will have 20 years fewer to practice law. Who knows?
I hope you hear something very soon.

From what I've gotten, they are wanting to match other scholarships for most rather than throw money around freely. Pretty smart to just engage in negotiating in an age of negotiations.cannibal ox wrote:I was accepted ~5 weeks ago, so that Facebook post is pretty troubling for me. I'm going to assume no initial offer for me.

Not I, samoby, but that's because I'm in Austin
For those wondering, Dean Ingram and I are talking tomorrow regarding scholarships. I think if you weren't made an initial offer it certainly can help to reach out and contact them.

Attax, will you let us know if they respond to your inquiry regarding whether or not you've got a scholarship? I'm interested in whether or not they'll tell us, or will give us a roundabout answer or tell us to wait and check our mailboxes.

Definitely, her email said they are making a discretionary search right now and, since my GPA falls below 3.0, my file is in a unique situation. I will call her tomorrow to discuss the circumstances and discuss things.cannibal ox wrote:Attax, will you let us know if they respond to your inquiry regarding whether or not you've got a scholarship? Accepted this morning. From what the dean said about scholarship offers, they should be coming out in about 2 weeks. I'm not sure if that means two weeks after you're admitted, or if they're coming out for everyone within 2 weeks, but I hope that helps a little!

Re: Texas Class of 2017
Welcome! There has actually been some discussion via facebook. While I can't 100% verify this for accuracy, the info given seems to be the following:KatyMarie wrote:Accepted this morning. 1. Within 4 weeks of your admissions you should either receive scholarship info, or receive nothing. If you receive nothing, you should presume no scholarships currently.
2. UT has a policy (although some have said they have broken it) where they will review to match scholarships, but you can only request ONCE. Be sure to have your best offers available for this (especially places such as UMN, SMU, UH, WUStL, or T-14).
I have a meeting with Dean Ingram later today and can update with info regarding scholarships. They don't seem to be GPA/LSAT based as much this year, and seem to be offering low.

Good luck on the rest of your cycle! Texas is pretty damn sweet if I do say so myself (especially in specific regards to the legal market!)BentleyLittle wrote:Pneumonia wrote:Congrats, and welcomeBentleyLittle wrote:Checking in!Thanks, guys! Anyone else get an email with a travel stipend and invite to Admitted Students Day? Not sure who this went out to, maybe just for out-of-state admits.

To the ASD in Austin in March, or to one of the regional events? I received an invite to the D.C. regional one, but no stipend. I'm only a couple hours away by car, though.cannibal ox wrote:Anyone else get an email with a travel stipend and invite to Admitted Students Day? Accepted on 12/11, and it was an invite for March 20/21, or for April 4th or April 11th.

Ok, the travel stipend must be part of your scholarship package. Dean Ingram mentioned on the Facebook page that those are the only travel stipends that UT offers.cannibal ox wrote:Accepted on 12/11, and it was an invite for March 20/21, or for April 4th or April 11th.

Odd, because I was told that I did not receive an initial scholarship, and that I'd need to use the Matching Program.

Scholarship Tip: call/email if you have any questions or concerns. Interest and desire to attend play some factor in their decisions I'd think. I've emailed and talked and I just got an email offering $7,000/year with good standing stips.

I think sincere desire to attend definitely plays a role

See some of you in the Fall. I doubt I'll be anywhere else at this point.

Is getting a travel stipend for "academic achievement"any indication of future scholarships?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
