Admitted!
I'm really going to try and do the April ASD, but.. my final semester won't be over at that point and I'm in school during the March one.
My Spring Break starts on March 14th, so I think of just doing a normal admissions tour instead. It's unfortunate, but my only option..
Will still try my hardest to go in April, though...

Just received the phone call about three days ago--I'm in! Waiting on the admit package with (hopefully) some scholly info. Now for a quick question...
I think I've narrowed my choices down to either SMU or ASU, and I can't quite decide which one is better for me (although I imagine that when I visit, it'll all fall in place). Anything y'all can offer that might sway me one way or another? I'm most interested in the extraordinarily cliche'd 'bang-for-my-buck' aspect.

To be honest, I'm not sure. Again, I'd imagine that it will fall into place when I visit, but (like I said) I'm more interested in which one y'all think would be better in terms of an investment.

ASU is literally the ugliest, biggest campus ever. With freeways that run through it. It's absolutely awful.

It's hard to say what would be the "best bang for your buck" if we don't know your COA at either school. I'd also go with this probably isn't the appropriate place to be asking these questions. You'll probably get better feedback here. All things being equal, it still comes down to where you want to practice.

Aside from The Village, anyone know of good apartments near campus? Nothing TOO luxurious/expensive.

I'm not sure about close to campus, but anyone else considering uptown?

Uptown would be amazing! CoL is just a little too expensive, at least for me. For people wanting roommates, it may be a good option, as long as you do not get easily distracted (uptown is just way too fun).Austinbound wrote:Afterparty wrote:Aside from The Village, anyone know of good apartments near campus? The Standard on University is nice.Afterparty wrote:Aside from The Village, anyone know of good apartments near campus? Nothing TOO luxurious/expensive.
I actually just moved to the Village after living in Lakewood for the past two years and I have been very impressed with Lincoln and the amenities. I am in the brand new apartments there, and they are great so far. There are a few other pretty new apartments in the Village that would probably also be good although I wouldn't want to live in the 1970s complexes.
I have no desire to live in Uptown but the apartments off Henderson are nice.
In Highland Park, there are some options on Emerson and University as you approach the Tollway. They tend to go fast, but I see them listed on CList every so often.
If anyone is interested in looking at the duplexes and 4-plexes in Lakewood/Lower Greenville/M Streets a realtor can be helpful. Most of those are MLS listed so you can use someone for free (to you). I used a guy last year and liked him a lot. If anyone wants his name, I would be happy to PM. (

Fwiw, I checked out The Standard in December. Pretty awesome, way nicer than anywhere I've lived my last 4 years in Michigan. It's not exactly the cheapest living option, though--a 2 bedroom will still cost you around ~$800 plus amenities.thisiswater wrote:The Standard on University is nice.Afterparty wrote:Aside from The Village, anyone know of good apartments near campus? Sometimes it takes really long for the professors to post the books they plan to use. Once you have access to the "SMU Access" site, you will see your class schedule. There's a link that will show you the textbooks for your courses. You'll have to keep checking as professors post their required texts. One suggestion, I wouldn't buy any "recommended" text books right away. Just buy the "required" texts. Wait until class starts to see if the "recommended" books might be helpful.

I have access to SMU Access but I can't see class schedule yet. It is still really early so I am assuming that is normal.YYZ wrote:TheJanitor6203 wrote:To any current/former students: When can we expect to get class schedules and book lists? I'm hoping June/July??

I would assume it's way too early for class schedules to be posted. I'm not sure of the exact timing of posting your schedule or if they'll let you know in advance before posting it. My guess would be some time in July.thisiswater wrote:I have access to SMU Access but I can't see class schedule yet. Re: SMU C/O 2017
Post this over on the other thread as well:
I'm moving to to Dallas to attend SMU from the east coast so I'm looking for a roomate to share a 2 BR. Found a few complexes that look good for around 1150-1250 a month. I'd be looking to move in mid-July or August 1.
I'm pretty laid back and easy going so feel free to message me if you're looking for a roomate as well! If you're from Dallas and have furniture that's a definite plus considering I won't have any and I'm not from the area.

1L here. Yeah, that's definitely normal. I don't remember getting our schedules until late July or early August. You'll get the necessary info in plenty of time to get books. I saved a lot by just ordering off Amazon and using the free two-day shipping promo you can get with your edu e-mail address. This is personal preference, but I would try to get your books in "like new" condition if possible. It's annoying (if not confusing) to try to highlight/underline/write in the margins when a previous owner has already done the same thing. This is especially true when it's obvious the previous owner didn't know what the hell was going on.thisiswater wrote:I have access to SMU Access but I can't see class schedule yet.
