Might want to throw in important info in the OP--i.e., dates of due seat deposits, link to accepted students website, dates of ASWeekends, etc.
Life is good bro. So much weight off my shoulders after being admitted here. I already own a house in Dallas so the idea of having to rent my house out and move all my shit plus my wife and kids was killing me. Now I can just enjoy the rest of my holidays knowing everything is going to work out the way I wanted it to.

Are you 100% attending or are you still waiting to hear back from other schools?

About 99% certain. Grew up in Dallas / have existing connections there, so I'd really like to return there after spending 4 very chilly years in Michigan.

I'll definitely fly in to Dallas for one of them, ideally, the one on the 28th. Which one are you thinking about?

Recent (2013) SMU grad here (but I think most of you know that...just in case for those who don't). Feel free to ask me anything.

I just realized that I'm probably going to be in Austin the weekend of the 20th, so it looks like I'll probably go to the one in April too. I'm not trying to be traveling back to back weekends.

Hey! So excited to get the packet today. It's real!

I live in McKinney, and have kids in high school, so no moving closer for us. Anyone else in the northern burbs who would be interested in carpooling?

No carpooling for me. I will be in north east Dallas near 635/75.

Doctolaw,

What are you planning to with your combo MD/JD? I read something you posted elsewhere that you had something specific you wanted to do. Just curious what it is.

Got any suggestions for apartments / townhouses within walking distance of the law school?

Kalvano will give a better answer I'm sure but I doubt you'll find anything affordable that close to the school since its in HP. SMU has graduate housing though. http://www.smu.edu/StudentAffairs/Housi ... adStudents It looks like that will cost between $9,000-$10,000 per school year.

I think the most common places people will be are The Village and duplexes in Lower Greenville. Neither are walking distance but they're short drives.

Kalvano,

Are any of the meal plans with it? I was looking at them the other day and they all seem to either be way to much or no where near enough. I'm thinking I'll probably be eating 1 or 2 meals a day there. What's close to the law school, cheap and good?

Apartments: I didn't live close at all, so I'm not really sure. I know the Village is pretty popular, but it's not walking distance. Walking distance will be expensive. There are apartments directly across from the school, off of Daniel Ave., but I imagine they aren't cheap.

Food: they have meal plans? I had no idea. The law school is well set-off from the campus, and there are tons of restaurants around, so I can't imagine a meal plan would be worth it. Everything from Pizza Hut to Chik-Fil-A to BBQ places to Mexican to Greek. Just eat out or the cafe in the law school. I don't think a meal plan would be worth it.

Sorry, I've been offline for a few days.

I don't know for sure. I'm trying to go in with an open mind and not rule anything out, but health policy, improving access for undeserved, something liberal like that. ;)

Greetings. I'm a 2011 grad. I'd check out the apartments off of Henderson; it's a great location: less expensive than uptown but still a good area. I lived there and was able to ride my bike to class in good weather. Also, there's great nightlife/food on Henderson, and you can't beat being able to walk to happy hour.

How long of bike ride is that? It seems a little far. If I was single/didn't already have a house I'd definitely be looking in that area though.

It was about 2 miles; not a long ride at all.

I'm not sure that that's where my interests lie, and it's a much more challenging job in Texas since 2003.

Also, that was supposed to say "underserved" as opposed to "undeserved" up there.

I think it's a worthy goal to pursue. My dad operates a non-profit that raises money through grants and through a thrift store to provide healthcare to low income people.

Is he in the Dallas area?
