Hey Robert_Bert. I commuted to class from Jersey City - it was about 40 minutes on the train, 1xfer, 1 hour door to door each way. I'd say over half the student body lives close to campus. A good amount live a short commute (10-15 minutes, no xfers), and a few of us live very far away. (I guess in answering your question, I'm going to assume 'important' = academic success and social stuff)
I can justify Jersey City to NYU. That's a very manageable commute. But Jersey City to Columbia... is a bit much. My current commute takes me from south BK to Columbus Circle. 45 mins (not counting delays and stops), and that has been wearing on me. The same issues: standing for long periods in crowded subway trains). I feel like parts of the Bronx would be more justifiable.

I have not been admitted yet (hoping for that blue letter), but here is some data from the 2012 EIP that was in PDF which I converted to Excel. I added some useful calcs as well. The 2013 data should be out soon, and I will report back with it once available:

Thanks for this! I wish there was GPA data as well though...

Yeah...at least it gives somewhat of an idea of the relative competitiveness of the firms within a given school. But what I want to start to look at is this data compared to other schools. For instance if you're like me and you want to work in DC, it would be nice to be able to look at this percentages for the top 10 DC firms and compare to CLS, NYU, Duke, UVA, etc.

I agree. Hopefully more data like this starts floating around other school forums. I am interested in a non-NY major market, and it is really difficult to gauge the success of CLS students in that market without GPA data. For all I know, only top 10% students are getting offers, while the rest of the group is below median. It's impossible to tell.

Edit: To be clear, this is significantly more illuminating than what we had before. Thanks ls22!

Just trying to be helpful! Although it's looking increasingly likely I won't need to make the NYU/Columbia decision haha. No blue envelope...

No, but I am in finance-related industry. And thanks! Just trying to make it so I'll be pleasantly surprised if I get in to CLS lol

Cool, thanks a lot. That's what I had assumed, but I hadn't seen anything specific about timelines on the Columbia website like at the other T14 so I thought it was worth an ask.
