Need Access is a bitch, especially for someone who has been off parental assistance for a while. Some of these questions I just do not know the answer to.
Also, just to make sure, we are supposed to fill out the 2014-2015 form correct?

What is going on with the Blue Devils this season? Don't think I've ever seen a Coach K team struggle so much with defense.

None of my materials mention one, nor can I find one, so if it is it is well hidden.lawschool22 wrote:Is there a Duke Facebook group yet?

Anyone with the Mordecai invite hear back regarding lodging/travel stipend yet? First dates in less than a month, so I would expect that they need to get this info out to people soon...

So if I'm doing government loans I need to complete the FAFSA eventually, but I don't have to complete the FAFSA in order to receive a scholarship offer; is that correct?

Re: Duke Class of 2017
That's correct for Duke, but you do need to submit Need Access if you want to be considered for need-based aid. Also the FAFSA is much less involved than Need Access, and every piece of info you will need for FAFSA will also needed for the Need Access form. So if you're doing NA you can easily do FAFSA as well. Both of them allow estimates so you need not have completed your taxes.Pneumonia wrote:So if I'm doing government loans I need to complete the FAFSA eventually, but I don't have to complete the FAFSA in order to receive a scholarship offer; is that correct?

I submitted my Need Access and Duke Scholarship form last week. Am I supposed to receive a confirmation email from Duke that they received it?

Very fortunate recent admit here, I was curious if they sent out any sort of package before you submit the financial information, or if you only get your "packet" after the fact? I'm guessing they send it prior, but I'm antsy to get my Duke stuff.

You'll get a packet with all sorts of swag in a week or two. There's a cool little notebook, a lanyard, and a bookmark. The financial aid won't come until the end of January at the earliest, I believe.Nonconsecutive wrote:Very fortunate recent admit here, I was curious if they sent out any sort of package before you submit the financial information, or if you only get your "packet" after the fact? I submitted my scholarship form by e-mail and got a confirmation of receipt e-mail the next day. It also shows on my status checker that my forms have been received.johnjay wrote:I submitted my Need Access and Duke Scholarship form last week. So I read that Duke was rated number one for quality of life, which seems pretty important to me in choosing a law school, but I couldn't find out how they did the rankings. Anyone?

seems to be based more on what the campus feels like then on what the city is like, the latter of which being what I usually think of when I hear "quality of life"

Any suggestions for married students? Are there family-style complexes around?

I can't speak for the rankings, but having been to Duke a couple times to visit when I was undergrad and having spoken to alums, my guess is it boils down to some of these factors
- Small class size with a greater sense of camaraderie than competition.
- Durham is a nice town -- nothing special -- but it's got a charm about it that many of the incoming class who have not necessarily spent much time in the South find appealing.
- Affordable cost of living.
- Weather is solid. You get all four seasons, but the temp generally doesn't go much below 30 or above 90.
- Everyone loves the Blue Devils!

Anyone going down for the February 7th Mordecai Day? I'm getting in the afternoon of the 6th and would be interested in meeting up with people to explore a little.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
