What is application timeline for graduation > clerkship > biglaw?

Post by Anonymous User » Sat Apr 27, 2019 10:11 pm

I am a 2L (finishing second year) and can't get straight when I am supposed to apply for Biglaw IF:
- I am not doing a biglaw SA and my summer firm does not give offers
- I am clerking for 1 year after graduation (so 2020-2021)

When do I apply if I want to have a decent shot for biglaw after clerking? This summer? Next summer? The fall of my clerkship year? Are pre-clerkship SAs a thing and how/where do I get one?

Pre-clerkship SAs aren’t a thing. Plus, you should spend that summer studying for and taking the bar.

I believe you’d be job hunting as a “lateral” basically so this probably starts at some point during your clerkship.
