When do clerkships start?

I was wondering do clerkships start in the summer or do they start in the fall? Also, do you need to pass the bar to do a clerkship?

It depends. Typically, you can expect to start in late August or early September but each chambers is different.

And no, you do not need to pass the bar to clerk but most judges would prefer you were not studying during the clerkship.

Most do start in August. But a decent handful of chambers start half their clerks in late August and half in early January, to help with the transition.
