When does everyone expect/if ever for the market to turn up? Almost every firm I have contacted has said they aren't looking to hire, and so far, only received a few interviews. HYS Top 10% Law Review. Anyone with similar credentials having much luck?

Thank you.

My credentials are similar, but not as good. I've had a series of interviews, but no offers. Considering a switch to more mid-size firms outside of major markets. Not looking great right now...

Geez. Now I don't feel so bad about my inbox full of dings anymore.

T14, top 15%, non 2/9/DC COA, but only 2 interviews to date. Applied broadly, both to specific postings and mass emailing. I assumed lit would turn up this year

I'm in the same boat as you. I'd be worried but... they have sent out dings via snail-mail to some people. I suppose that either means they are still considering us, or forgotten about us completely. Who knows, maybe we'll get an interview !
I emailed around November (LA office) and got an offer to interview after about two weeks later.
Thanks. I applied to NY office. I’ve heard of movement in CA and TX where the firm is looking for associates, but not in NY.

If I had a few callbacks in the northeast with big law about 2 weeks ago and I haven't heard back, should I follow up? Does anyone recommend following up post-callback? I've heard firms can take a little longer when they're doing clerk recruiting, especially if they've only just done their clerk receptions. I should add I've never worked for a firm before.

Do people follow up with big law callbacks? If so, how long do they typically wait?

The only follow up that makes sense would be "thank you" notes, but if you do that, those should be sent shortly after the callback. I don't think it helps you at all to reach out if you haven't heard anything. If they're interested in you, they'll make you an offer. Seemingly, following-up only hurts your chances by seeming annoying or desperate. Unless of course, you have an offer from another firm, in which case you put the ball in their court to make a decision and it shows you are committed to them.

Just my thoughts though.

I wouldn't get your hopes up too high, although I am rooting for ya. I had something similar happen to me and was told that the practice group wasn't busy enough to make the hire. It wasn't a ding, but it definitely wasn't what I was hoping/expecting.

Take the meeting, suspect the worst, hope for the best. Best of luck!
OP here. This turned out to be TCR.

The parnter said everyone at the firm loved me but that they don't have enough work. but that the firm' situation might change closer to the fall. It was weird though because when I told him about my other interviews coming up, and said I would let him know if I got another offer, he was just like "no you should take it."

So pretty sure it was just a rejection.

Thanks for your response. I feel like you're right on the money. If I still haven't heard and it's been like 12 days since I've had the interviews should I start moving on and assuming I didn't get the gig? Do things typically take longer for clerks? I've heard stories of people getting offered right away. But then I've also heard stories of people waiting a few months.

Twelve days after interview doesn't strike me as that long. I just received an offer from a firm where I was apparently one of the first interviews. It took nearly three weeks to get the offer. Their hiring committee might not have met yet.

When and where is the New York covington event? Our chambers (2d Cir) strangely did not receive paper invites

Why don't you just email the recruiting contact on the website?

Also Gibson DC has started moving with screeners at least.

Literal. Silence. I don't know what they are doing, but I am assuming silence at the beginning of their interview season is a bad sign.

Does anyone have a sense of Zuckerman Spaeder (DC)? As a place to practice, prestige, $$? Any of that would be helpful.

Coming up on 3 weeks since my callbacks in NY. Starting to lose hope. Is it true that other people had to wait up to a month? More?

Got a form rejection from Cleary Gottlieb. A firm that I received an offer from at OCI over three years ago. Clerkship recruiting is a joke.

I am approaching that with a LA firm. I thought the interview went REALLY well. So also at a loss.

My co-clerk and I both received offers from different big NY firms after longer waits. I was coming up on 4 weeks, and he just heard this week after a callback in December. Don’t count yourself out!

Have had some similar things happen (I'm clerking as a mid-level so knew I would have a little bit of trouble, but still). For those waiting, I have been waiting 3 months from a NY firm and told not out of the running and 3.5 months from a Chicago firm that I haven't bothered to ask but assume ding). Got a ding from a different NY firm day after interview though.

I remember reading perilous posts the last two years but convincing myself for one reason or another that it wouldn't be me. After two clerkships and years at v20, I've got 4 firm interviews, 3 AUSA interviews, and doesn't look like any offers, with about 6 months to go. Probably applied for about 100 total firms (# includes some where i applied to 5 different offices separately). Dicey out there.

Do you mind sharing which NY firms you and your co-clerk recently received offers from? Still waiting here.
