Don't assume anything. If you have an offer already and you want the other firm to make a move, tell them about your time constraints with a pending offer, that might shake an answer loose more quickly.

If you had a CB and have a competing offer that might expire soon, just tell the first firm that you have an expiring offer and ask whether they'll be able to give you an answer by XX date. The answer may be "no" but at least you'll know for sure. Why assume anything?

Not necessarily. It completely depends on the firm. Keep in mind that firms typically use clerks to pad out classes that have holes in them - it's not as robust as regular recruiting, where they're looking to fill classes. As a consequence, they often take fewer candidates as a proportion to the number they interview.
Thank you. I tell myself these are small offices with 1 or 2 spots and a lot of applicants but the dings still sting. Lucky to have offers though, good luck to those still waiting.
Just curious OP, what kind of offer did you get?
Biglaw offers.

Post-interview rejection from MTO today, but I had already accepted an offer. I hope one of you gets the spot.

Curious about WTO. Had never heard much about it until this thread (where it is mentioned more than any other firm) as a destination. What is the draw?

Easy: trial, trial, trial. After that, Denver; after that clerkship bonus.

I feel you. I'm also thinking about just accepting an offer at a worse firm before my inevitable rejection comes in. Still holding on to a sliver of hope though.

CB with top choice in smaller market yesterday. Today the hiring partner called chambers for references. I was relieved when I heard they had called, but now the waiting is even more painful. Anyone else experience this? How much longer will I be tortured?

Why would that baffle you? Maybe he would rather be a Recruiter.
This is a real question? That’s a lot of brutal work and expensive loans that are TOTALLY UNNECESSARY if they want to be a recruiter. You have trouble seeing why anyone would be baffled by that career trajectory?
I know engineers that became recruiters. Law school isn't any more "brutal work" than an electrical engineering or computer science program. They have such perks at the companies they work for like stock options, top notch insurance, free food and drinks at the office cafeterias/cafes, free commuter shuttle bus, free access to nice health clubs, free onsite gym, free on-site yoga, outdoor sports courts, climbing wall, deals for their specific company at happy hours, on-site bike co-ops, on-site dry cleaning, free on-site massage, games rooms plus other random benefits.

Also, it is possible to make more as a recruiter than an attorney, especially if you take into account the number of hours worked (the recruiters I know rarely work more than 40 hours and work often from home). They aren't too concerned about paying off their loans, they seem to live a comfortable lifestyle in a nice city. Apparently, your friend has realized this.

What is the latest on Patterson Belknap? Is it too late to apply? Would it be worth going there over a V10?

Definitely wait it out. There is no harm in doing so. And there is no reason to accept elsewhere before hearing back if MTO is your top choice. I wound up accepting elsewhere before hearing back because I received an offer that I preferred

Hiring started in January, but they might not be totally finished yet.
Versus a V10 -- it depends on your goals. If you want to work on the biggest cases for the biggest clients at a place that works hard and plays hard (before you burn out), Patterson isn't it. But if you're looking for a place that does interesting work (as long as you're interested in the areas in which they're strong) with decent people with reasonable expectations and (mostly) market compensation in NYC, where you might be able to stick around for a few years, send in an application. I chose it over my V25.

Bump. Is there still Winston silence out there? I had a CB almost two weeks ago, no idea if the silence from them is normal or not.

I'd also be curious to hear about O'Melveny, Sidley, Jones Day, Arnold or Wilmer. I'd submitted applications in early March but so far, radio silence.

Do you mind saying which office? If not no worries. I did my interview with them over a month ago and I still haven't heard anything, so I wouldn't worry about 2 weeks just yet...

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
