SDNY/DE bankruptcy clerk. Looking in NYC and wondering if anyone could speak to the culture and work/life balance of the restructuring group at Willkie. I realize the firm is still NYC biglaw, but Willkie tends to have a reputation as more humane than other NYC firms. Wondering if this holds true for the BK group. Thanks.

Gibson DC offer. I'm off of the regular cycle (clerkship ending in February).

Also wondering this! How long did you wait for a callback and offer?

Does anyone out there have a sense of what the mess in DC last year means for those of us coming on the market this year? Looking to apply to lit boutiques, but am aware from friends who were looking last year that the whole District was a giant mess with administration turnover and government exodus, among other issues. Curious how many have started applying to places like Kellogg, Molo, etc. or if there are words of wisdom on timing.

FWIW, I was a 1st year assoc at a DC firm, spent a year clerking on a COA (not 2/9/DC), and am now in district court (non-DC but close enough to see DC friends sometimes). Top 25-ish% from a non-HYS T14. Scared sh*tless based on people's results last year.

Not sure about how much of a need dc firms have this year but I think the time to apply is January/February. I applied to Kellogg and was told that their hiring process will start in February. Sidley said the same thing. Kirkland and Covington said January.

Not sure about the market question, but I think the grades might be a bigger issue for some of the DC boutiques. I don't think top 25% is going to cut it at Kellogg.

Yeah, it's a known risk. But I figure I'll let them reject me rather than the other way around. More curious about the dangers I don't know about (market conditions) that the ones I do (application may be a hail mary). Especially because market conditions/backlash from last year might affect all the places, not just the ones that are somewhat out of reach anyway.

Kind of a basic question, but do you all recommend keeping or omitting your law school GPA from resumes during post-clerkship hiring?

Keep. Most firms will request an unofficial LS transcript.

I’ve heard that several big firms in non-NYC major markets have started offering post-clerkship positions. Anyone else heard of big movement yet?

NYC or DC? Their NALP profile states that clerks shouldn't even apply until after January 1.

NYC. Perhaps they will do another round but as I said, can confirm that they interviewed a batch and have concluded that with offers forthcoming.

I can confirm. Had an interview with FF recently. Excellent firm with excellent people. I hope I get an offer! I'll report back if I do. Fingers crossed!

This was a NYC reception? When was it? Didn’t see an invitation to this one in chambers.

I recently applied and was given an opportunity to interview. I did not go to one of the clerkship receptions, however.

I attended both the clerkship reception AND the holiday party, schmoozed pretty unabashedly and applied. I haven't heard a peep. No dings, nothing. Of course, if you didn't max out the top of your class at Yale and clerk for SDNY and 2nd circuit at the exact same time, it's probably not going to happen.

It was about a month ago for 2d cir and sdny. The holiday party was ten or so days ago. My sense was that invitations would be going out after the holiday party to those who attended the clerkship reception; not having heard back, I assume I was passed up.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
