Negotiating a clerkship bonus without any leverage

Post by Anonymous User » Tue May 30, 2017 12:26 pm

I currently have an offer coming out of my clerkship with a mid-sized firm. The firm does not pay a clerkship bonus. I have other firms that are interested, but probably won't get another offer before the time to accept this one expires. I really like the firm and it's a good fit. Is there any point in trying to negotiate a clerkship bonus even though I don't have another offer as leverage? Who would you reach out to for such negotiation, the hiring partner or the HR person?

Recruiter/HR person. And no reason not to try.

How would you word the email, considering I don't have any leverage?

I wouldn't email. I would call. And of course you have leverage. They want you to work there.
