2019-20 Clerkship Application Thread
Unfortunately, it's time to get this off the ground.
Some CA3 judges seem to be moving for this term, but I'm not sure who else is.

10th Circuit, 11th Circuit + DC Circuit have already hired some (if not multiple) for the 2019-2020 term.

A lot of judges only hire people with WE.

DC Circuit has hired rising 2Ls for 2019. Know of at least one from YLS.

At least one DC Circuit judge is 3/4 full for 2019.

Re: 2019-20 Clerkship Application Thread
Definitely not an entirely new phenomenon (know of multiple DC judges who were making multiple 2018-19 offers to rising 2Ls last summer), but I think a lot of these judges are now in a cyclical problem: unless they can start hiring four (or fewer) out of any given class year, it's just going to keep getting pushed further and further out.Anonymous User wrote:At least one DC Circuit judge is 3/4 full for 2019.

Interestingly, Kozinski changed his ways and no longer hires rising 2Ls. I guess he realized he can't hang with the big dogs anymore.

Interesting--any idea why he no longer hires rising 2Ls? He's always been one of the earlier hirers.Anonymous User wrote:Interestingly, Kozinski changed his ways and no longer hires rising 2Ls. I guess he realized he can't hang with the big dogs anymore.

Many judges will consider you for a later term if you express that in your application even if they're officially hiring for an earlier term.Anonymous User wrote:Any intel on which CA3 judges are moving, other than ones in OSCAR?Anonymous User wrote:Unfortunately, it's time to get this off the ground.

What's the protocol in sending apps to judges for the 2019-2020 term even though they are formally only open for 2018?

Re: 2019-20 Clerkship Application Thread
Unless they specifically say on OSCAR not to mail paper apps, you can always mail paper apps for 2019-20 and see what happens. But if you want to make sure you're not wasting your time or the judge's time, you can call chambers first and ask if they'd consider apps for 2019. It takes like 30 seconds.Anonymous User wrote:What's the protocol in sending apps to judges for the 2019-2020 term even though they are formally only open for 2018?
"Hi, I'm calling to ask whether Judge X is accepting clerkship applications for the 2019-20 term."
"Yes, 2019 is the next term we're considering. Mail/e-mail/use the 2018-19 OSCAR opening to submit an application." or "No, it's too early. We're only looking at 2018 right now."
"Ok, thanks. Have a nice day."

Meh, that's basically the same as a 2019-20 judge requiring two yearsAnonymous User wrote:Lol. Katzmann is hiring for 2020.
