So does Hull (who has hired several 2017 clerks already - not sure if any openings remain)

Is this confirmed? Just asking because he updated his 17-18 and 18-19 postings on OSCAR yesterday and still lists two 17-18 spots as available.

I strongly doubt that his OSCAR posting is incorrect, especially if it was updated yesterday. This would hardly be the first time that a TLS anon has incorrectly proclaimed a judge "full."

Yes it is confirmed. That update saying he had two spots open is old.

not the same anon as above, but my source is the the letter he sent me saying that, while he found me immensely qualified, he would be selecting someone else, obviously less handsome, to fill his Billings clerk vacancy.

Is there any hope of landing a 2017 circuit clerkship? Are there any still out there?

Like this fall 2017??? That's going to be really tough. I would say only if someone backs out of a position. You could try monitoring the employment page at the US courts webpage as I tend to see more short notice stuff there than on OSCAR, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that at all.

I did. It's a bummer I didn't get the offer (still yet to get one from any judge), but he's a great judge and it was cool just to speak with him for an hour. Don't despair, sounds like we're in the same boat.

I also wonder whether a COA judge who still has an open spot/someone backing out might be less inclined to post the position publicly - totally anecdotal, but where there's a somewhat urgent need to fill a spot I've seen judges rely a little more on pre-screened apps from someone they trust rather than take time to go through the OSCAR process.

Anyway, I agree with Nony that landing a 2017 COA clerkship at this point is pretty unlikely.

The best chance may be if any new judges get confirmed. That, however, seems unlikely given the snail's pace of nominations: http://www.uscourts.gov/judges-judgeshi ... -vacancies

The bold is what I was getting at. I've reached out to my school's office and a professor to let them know I am interested.

That may help, although you still have to hope that any judges with open spots (probably a vanishingly small number to begin with) are letting your specific school/prof know that they have a spot. And, of course, you still have to be the candidate the judge wants. I just wouldn't hold out a lot of hope with so few positions still open.

Williams is retiring effective September 1, 2017. She's taking senior today, actually.

Is she still hiring for the 17-18 term? Oscar says she is. Does this change anything?

Not that I'm aware of, but I don't know the other chambers' hiring processes very well.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
