Why? What judge? Clerking will be great, you don't have any reason to be nervous.

One of the feeders. I guess I just don't want to screw up. But yeah, my judge seems awesome. I'm really excited, just nervous too.

Good luck! If Fletcher or O'Scannlain you will have a great year. If Kozinski, well, get your affairs in order.

He put out the word a week or two ago through his current clerks that he was beginning to review applications. (I think this foots to his OSCAR notice.) I haven't heard of anyone at my HYS school asked to interview yet.

She's done. She only had one spot left and finished interviewing last week.

What is the deal with judges listed as "On Plan" on Oscar, yet the date of "accepting applications" started several months ago, and they already have positions classified as filled...? Talk about mixed signals. Anyone have any insight? Should I paper apply to judges even if they claim to be hiring on the Plan on Oscar? :?

I have a thirdhand report that he hasn't interviewed yet. Don't know how reliable it is.

Wallace? I guess you might not want to answer if it would out you but not sure if it would. I'm legitimately interested because I think he was planning on interviewing soon.

Interested in this as well. It would be greatly appreciated if you could just give a yes or no on Wallace.

For 13/14, Thomas did some hiring really late, like January/February this past cycle.

I assume none are quite so crazy like Kozinski, but one of the listings says specifically that the clerks have a lot of work. Not sure how to interpret that.

A quick look through Oscar reveals: Berzon, Bea, Callahan, Fisher, Fletcher, Gould, Graber, Hawkins, Kleinfeld, Nelson, Paez, Smith (N. or M.), Tallman, Wallace, Wardlaw.

Especially interested in the SF ones.
Bea is a mixed bag. Appears to dislike women lawyers. Not only is this a widely-held perception, I have had the pleasure of seeing him on action. He's a very smart judge when it comes to civil rights and other legal issues.

Hawkins is probably the most liberal of the bunch. His easy demeanor in court probably translates to an easy working relationship between himself and his clerks, and vice versa.

I know he isn't on your list above, but avoid Bybee at all costs - unless you are ultra-conservative and support waterboarding. Also, his ethics have long been in question. He has been known to have conflicts of interest yet refuse to step down from cases, accept perceived "gifts", etc.

If you google these judges you can find all of this.

Other side of this. I've talked to half a dozen Bybee clerks and each holds him in the highest regard. Looks out for his clerks a lot. Takes mentoring very seriously and is very kind in chambers.

I acknowledge he has a reputation, but if you're okay with that, it can be a great clerkship.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
