Greenaway has begun scheduling interviews, not sure about Chagares (although he tends to hire later on).
How later on, if you don't mind me asking? I submitted my application ages ago and assumed the radio silence was all the answer that was in store.

Chagares only hires those who have had a district court clerkship already

Clerking in D.Ct. right now (albeit nowhere nearby and in flyover), so I'm eligible. Applied via OSCAR ages ago. Per this thread, Shwartz is already full, so I imagine most of the other Newark judges have moved already?

Bump - none of these judges have updated OSCAR either.

Any insight on what Chagares likes in a clerk? Does he have a NJ preference or does he like work experience?

When are you applying? According to OSCAR, Chagares is full for 15-16 and 16-17 and is now accepting applications for 17-18.

17-18, although I'm shocked he's hiring this far out.

He basically requires a District Court clerkship before coming to him.

Hey all,

I am just starting to look into this now, but it seems like there is very little information available online for applying to EDPA. How exactly do we find out what the judges are looking for re: applications?

Per a law-school source, it sounds like MTB is retiring at the end of this term.

More Chagares questions - any idea if there's been 2017 movement yet? Also, any sense whether he requires traditional feeder grades, or is he not there yet?

Hardiman done for 2016. Think he even offered some 2017 spots to interviewees, so he's likely partially filled for 2017 too

Anyone have any idea what Vanaskie's timeline is for 2015? Saw in OSCAR that the interview dates moved from "Fall 2014" to "Fall/Winter 2014"...

Anyone have updates on Greenaway? Is he still looking for 2017?

District level, but there was a huge wave of EDPA judge confirmed in the end of last year. Any knowledge if they are moving for 2016 already?

Anyone know who is and isn't hiring yet for 2019? Is Chagares done, I know he had one spot left and the posting is up on OSCAR but it's been a while...

Chagares is full through 2019. Requires d.ct., top 10%, and current clerks have strong d.ct./schools.

Does anyone have anything anecdotal regarding the grading preferences for some of the Judges on the Third? I am clerking in a d.ct w/in the third for a well respected judge, but my grades aren't tippy/top. I have realized that much of the 3d on OSCAR doesn't reveal all that much

Krause (requires top 5-10% even from T10 schools), Hardiman and the Newark Judges are the most competitive. Scirica is tough, especially for those not at Penn.

From what I have heard, the rest are a bit harder to pin down. Obviously you will need good grades, but its not unheard of for someone who has d.ct experience in circuit to land something with one of the Judges in less appealing locations - think Duncansville.

- T10 grad clerking in the circuit

Posting anonymously, but former CA3 clerk.

Grades-wise, it really varies, both by judge but also by year. If the clerks have the primary job of filtering out applications, their opinions on grades might become the judge's opinion.

That said: it was my impression that Krause, Shwartz, Chagares, and Barry (when she was active) had the most-stringent grade requirements. I actually was not aware of Hardiman's reputation for requiring tip-top grades; by contrast, it was my understanding that Smith was fairly demanding. Fuentes seemed to hire people who had been out in the world a little bit.

The usual caveat, it's very idiosyncratic. I was top 2% at a T6 and didn't get a sniff from Chagares even though I got interest from other judges on different circuits who are more competitive. I think something random really has to catch someone's eye unless there's a rec connection or something.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
