More likely that my application was that purely terrible.

Kethledge is done for 2014 but may be interviewing/hiring for 2015. And I think McKeague is currently interviewing.

Is Kethledge like super-Sutton level feeder or do regular people with good grades have a shot?

I'll apply anyway because all he can say is no, but I'm just curious.

Kethledge hasn't been on the bench as long as Sutton and hasn't had as many go to the SC. But he seems to be on a similar trajectory as Sutton was a few years ago. Kethledge was confirmed in 2008 (one of the last Bush appointees) and didn't have any go to the SC for his first two years on the bench (which is not unusual). But in the last two years, Kethledge has sent two clerks to the SC (Roberts and Scalia) and two additional clerks to the Bristow (who will probably, but not necessarily, go on to clerk for SCOTUS). Also, he clerked for Justice Kennedy so that could be a potential outlet as well.

It's hard to predict with certainty but he is very young (like 45), very well-liked and respected, clerked for SCOTUS, and seems to have a broad connection to the conservative side of the Court (Roberts, Scalia, and presumably Kenned, with the others unknown), all of which seem to bode well for his roll as an increasingly reliable feeder. The fact that he sits in the desirable city of Ann Arbor probably doesn't hurt.

Of course the counterargument is that the list of conservative feeders is already quite long. And ahead of him, even among the Bush appointees, are Kavanaugh, Sutton, Gorsuch, and Griffith (off the top of my head). So it's unclear how much room there is for him to reach elite status.

All of that said, I don't have any personal knowledge about his "grade cutoffs" and such. I would imagine they are higher now than they were even a year ago. With the recent success of his clerks, he is no longer under the radar.

I know Kethledge's 2014 clerks include students from YLS and Michigan. Does anyone know where the other two hail from?

Kethledge has started hiring clerks only if they are paired with a feeder district court judge. For instance, one needs to secure a clerkship with Thapar and Kethledge at the same time.

For all of his clerks? Or just the ones he's hiring as far in advance as 2015?

For clerks hired two years out, but he is moving towards making two year advance hiring more common.

Last I heard, he had one spot left for 2014 and at least one spot taken for 2015. But that was a few weeks ago.

What kind of credentials are needed to get hired by Thapar?
