I told the clerkship coordinator/office at my school that I was considering applying for Newsom for 2017. They said 1) that he would probably go for more impressive candidates, like feeder judge status, and 2) that he is not soliciting applications because he will probably bringing these little clerk geniuses from his old firm or through his own contacts. This is one person at one school, so take it for what its worth, but it doesn't give me much hope. FWIW I'm top 1/3 at mid Top-10 school and have a district clerkship and two years of big law experience.

Newsom started soliciting clerkship applicants through his contacts back in June. He has been in touch with at least some candidates in the last two weeks. Not sure if he's full for 2017/2018 yet, but he's been working on this for awhile now.

I don't know if it means he's full for 2017 and 2018, but Newsom posted on OSCAR for 2019-20 only.

Does Judge E. Carnes look for ties to Alabama? Does anyone have any info on his hiring practices or what he looks for in a candidate?

From what I've picked up from a couple acquaintances who are or will be clerking for him:

His biggest thing is writing skills. Make sure to send a writing sample that no one else has edited, make it PERFECT, and be ready to discuss both the sample and your approach to writing generally if you get an interview. He's also very grade-conscious, and prefers law review.

Ties to the South are a bump. Doesn't have to be Alabama-specific, although that surely wouldn't hurt.

Thanks! Do you know how he views work experience and/or previous clerkships? I'm not on law review, but have 2 years biglaw experience and a district court clerkship with significant writing experience. I'm going to apply anyway, but just curious / wondering how to frame my cover letter.

Have Wilson, Marcus, Jill Pryor, Martin, or Rosenbaum moved at all for 19-20?

1. Any movement in the 11th circuit?
2. Does anyone have an information on Judge Martin and what she looks for in candidates? I hear she's harder and more demanding than some of her peers in the 11th circuit, but also that she is really nice and enjoyable to work for.

Any info is appreciated, thank you!

I have a flyover district clerkship in the 11th circuit. Are there any 11th circuit judges who would be more interested in my application because I have a local district clerkship?

Also, are there any 11th circuit judges that are less grade conscious / interested in work experience experience (in addition to the district clerkship)?

Does anyone know if the 11C (or any particular judges) is following the new clerkship hiring plan?

Heard from extern/clerk for him that he is wonderful, seems to prefer some ideological diversity in his clerks, and likes to provide opportunities for S. Floridians.

Do you know if he has any preferences for certain schools, experience prior to starting, GPA? Also, is he currently looking for 2020 or 2021?
